Default BES SQL Server Replacement and Upgrade Process

Please Login to Remove!

Currently, we run BlackBerry Manager version 4.1.3.18 on a Windows Server 2003 machine - which is connected to a separate SQL Server 2000 machine.

It is our intention to replace the SQL Server 2000 machine with a new Server running SQL Server 2005.

We will not be performing an upgrade to SQL Server 2005 on the existing Server - so I would assume this process would involve physically moving the database to the new Server, upgrading it to SQL Server 2005 and then pointing the client application to the upgraded database.

Can anyone please advise:

(i) What process we would follow to move the database from the old SQL Server (MSSQL2000) to the new one (MSSQL2005), and upgrade the database? Do you have documented instructions which details the process we must follow?
(ii) As we are deploying two replacement SQL Servers, we are also considering what options we would have available for Disaster Recovery.
(iii) And KB articles that may document this process and/or any known possible errors.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

This should get you started:
KB03112 - How to move the BESMgmt Database to a new SQL Server or instance - Port3101.org : Your BES Connection

Thank you both for your assistance. The KB article looks good.

My main question is whether we can simply backup and restore the database (as per KB article) and it will be automatically upgrade to SQLServer2005 standard or whether there are other steps required aftewards to upgrade the database.

the KB article indicates that a simple backup and restore is not all you need to do... If you just do a backup / restore it will not work.
