Odd, in the applications list you should see the full list, including the core applications and everything. I would recommend just to try again. I just updated my 8900 to 681 not even 10 minutes ago, and it worked as I mentioned.

Are you sure that it is not already updated? What SW are you currently on? (in options, about).

Another suggestion is to uninstall all previous software versions. Go to Control Panel, Programs and uninstall all versions of the 8900 device software. Do that even for the version you are trying to install. Once you got rid of all versions re-install the 8900 device software (I would suggest getting .681). After you have installed it refresh the Programs section in Control Panel and make sure that you only have the version of device software you want to install. After this just disconnect from the web, erase the vendor.xml from the two locations I mentioned and run loader again.

If you don't succeed then post EXACTLY what are you getting, what steps you took and what messages you see.

thanks in advance

(is it also possible to use someone's simcard who has a BB dataplan to update?)
There is a way around this, I have valid data plans for all our BB's but I like to update them before I add a user to BES and Activate.

**Proceed at your own risk** I use Javaloader to wipe the device, then run Loader.exe and it will install 5.0. After running javaloader it will show that your BB has no OS.

Why do you need a data plan again? I don't understand that, I just upgraded my 8900 to the latest OS a couple of weeks ago and I don't have a data plan (the data service is not there, edge appears in lower case and nothing connect). Unless I am missing something, upgrading your BB has nothing to do with the type of service you have. I have even upgraded before without a SIM card on it, and I have done it wiping the BB with Javaloader first and have done it just upgrading, both work just fine without a data plan.

A different thing is if you are connected to BES as you might have an IT policy that probably won't allow you to upgrade, in which case you will need to load a blank policy on the device when you wipe it.

Don't know much detail, but it's something new that has been implemented by the carriers when you upgrade to OS 5.0 (below that it didn't matter) and I'm sure beyond that when 6.0 is released.

mczapata - you may want to ask RIM why this is in their code.

Default Blackberrry DM 5.0

I have BBDM 5.0 installed and device 9700. I am synching the device with the BBDM to replicate my calendar, contacts, tasks and notes. Everything is working fine but i am facing the following 2 problems:
1. while synching the device if my incoming call rings(or if i receive any sms,mms or any reminder) on the device than the sync hangs up at that position only and does not continue.
2. after the sync is finished than automatically the update device software starts. which I dont want it to..

thanx

waiting for urgent reply

Hi! i'm having these problems for months now. I can't Update my Blackberry storm 2 (9520), my current version is v5.0.0.580 (platform 4.2.0.250) and wanna update it to v5.0.0.714
and i'm using Windows 7 home basic (64bit)
I already installed the new OS in my comp. deleted the vendor.xml in the common files loc. but i can't seem to find the other vendor.xml in the C:\Users\Username\appdata\virtualstore... there is no files in there. not even a single one. all hidden files are shown. tried running DOS no good still cant find the vendor.xml. already tried crackmem still no good. when i tried to update my bb thru loader (even if i deleted only one vendor.xml) it still doesn't recognized my new OS installed in the comp. all I see are the apps I downloaded. and oh. I tried reinstalling everything from my DM(unchecked the update) to new OS and tried installing it with no internet connection still no good.and oh I have BIS service.

argghh. pls help me!
thanks

I have a Sprint-branded Tour 9630 (OS 4.7.57, Platform 4.1.0.70), now with a Vodafone India BB plan attached, but the phone will not provision on it's own home network! (yes, I have set it to the GSM 2G/3G option)

When I was back "home" in the US, and the BB thought it was not roaming for a second when on ATT (how I do not know! ), it started provisioning itself for the India Vodafone BB plan, and did so successfully, before I switched off the data connection so I wouldn't raped by the horrendous charges for international roaming!

No matter what I try, (hard pull of battery, with SIM out), trying to update to another OS (like 5.0), it will not allow me to either provision or to update the OS, even after deleting *all* found vendor.xml files on the PC.

Would request some help/tips, as I have tried almost everything, without success.

(Note my profile is for my US based T-mobile 8900 - so disregard that for this particular post)

UPDATE:

I just tried my T-mobile SIM in the Tour - and it could not provision the phone - giving the same message.

However, some service books for T-mobile USA were loaded - just have no idea what is going on with this phone!
