Default Can't Sync new Tour

Please Login to Remove!

I just upgraded from a Pearl which I could always since with my Outlook 2007.

Since upgrading to the Tour I have been unable to sync to Outlook (contacts or calendar).

Two things are happening that are odd:

1) When trying to setup the synchronization properties at the last step after clicking "Finish" DM hangs and has to be killed.

2) When trying to sync the progress dialog comes up and immediately closes (no syncing occurs).

I tried this with both DM 5.0.1 and DM 4.7 (same exact results for both of them).

Any thoughts on WTF might be going on?

Back up... What were your steps prior to this? Were DM and Outlook untouched at first, when you switched to the new blackberry? And what did you do, use switch device wizard, or did you do a backup of the old and restore to the new? If DM and/or Outlook were not untouched in during the process of moving from the old to the new blackberry, what did you do?

I did not use device switch. Once I got the new BB, I started using it (figuring I would get around to syncing with Outlook). I didn't know about the device switch at first.

Outlook has been untouched since I last synced with my Pearl. I really didn't even do anything to the new Tour other than download some apps and apply the latest patch that VZW sent me a message for.

What is really wierd is that it isn't even trying to see what is on the device and/or Outlook. It just silently fails.

I'm curious if you can still sync with the pearl, if you still have the pearl. I'm trusting you know what you are doing, but if you can still sybc to the pearl it will confirm.

When you connect the new blackberry to the computer, does DM see it and connect? Can you runa manually backup? If so, go ahead and do it.

Try running sync again manually. Afterward, click on the view log button in the sync module. What does it say?

I can not still sync the Pearl either...I had thought of that as well. Same issue with trying to sync the Pearl.

I DM does see the new BB and I can run a Backup.

The "View Log" button is disabled still after attempting a sync.

I did find a file called PtTrace.txt in the <user>/Roaming/.../Intellisync directory. It had the following data in it:

The DM log is RIM.log. Explore and see if you have it.

I don't know why it is greyed out, unless that means there is no log file. I would expect there to be one from when DM worked for you, unless it was removed when you were switching back and for between 5.0.1 and 4.7.

I don't know what will fix the problem. I would use Outlook and go through calendar, tasks, etc and look at the entries. Set the view to a spreadsheet format of rows and columns. Look for empty rows, and anything that stands out as odd. Delete any empty rows, if you find any. Edit out the oddities, if you find any.

Since you have your PIM info sync'd and you've done a backup, go ahead and use the advance feature of the backup module in DM to clear the calendar, task and notes data bases on the blackberry.

Now, try to sync again.

Fingers crossed here. Hope it works. If not, and I'm guessing, I would do a clean uninstall of DM, reboot windows, and install 5.0.1 again. If you've reach that point and it doesn't work, I have no other ideas.
