Thanks MadDog, I'll give them a call in the morning and report back. I just read on the Amazon site that in order to upgrade your phone on an existing contract, you have to be in at least the 10th month in a 12 month or 22nd month in a 24 month contract to be able to extend the contract further. My situation wouldn't be an upgrade, but a purchase of another devise and then an extension, so they'll have to sort that out for me. If in the end Amazon says it's OK with AT&T, I'd move forward on this devise-it's too good a deal to pass up for the price.

If the answer is yes, then this is a no brain-er for me. Can someone chime in on the facts? I wouldn't want to be subject to any additional fees by changing the terms of my current deal.
I am in the same boat as you but, I just found the below info on Amazon's site... hope this helps.

  1. You must be month-to-month in your existing contract with this carrier, or you must be at least 10 months into your 12-month contract or 22 months into your 24-month contract.
  2. Your account must be in good financial standing and without late fees.
  3. You agree to extend your contract 24 months from the end of your existing contract.
  4. You are not attempting to upgrade an entire, or any portion of, a family plan.
  5. You are not a former AT&T TDMA subscriber now on Cingular's network.

Note: Eligibility results may vary based on a number of conditions,
such as usage history, payment record, and previous phone replacement.

If you don't qualify they will let you know and you can cancel the order.

also, re: the rebate. It has to be a 29.99$ or higher data plan, so basically any data plan, lol.

Default Update on Qualifications for Offer

Having just spoken with an Amazon representative this morning, I was informed that this offer is only available to new and renewing individual subscribers only, and not available under any family plan. That's unfortunate for me, being on a family plan with my daughters phone attached to my plan with my BB 8100. Guess I'll have wait until a deal comes along that would accomodate my plan; I wonder why they wouldn't want to have a family plan associated with this deal, but I'm sure they have some marketing plan behind that answer.

Thanks to all who replied to me about this thread.

Default Follow up with AT&T Customer Service

I got in touch with customer service today to find out when I would be eligible for an upgrade, and found out it's sooner than I thought, near the end of November, 2007. The deal that was suggested to me (unavailable today, but will be at upgrade time), is the same new subscriber deal being hawked online: $199.99 after rebate, except that they would knock off the $100 up front, so I wouldn't have to lay out almost $300.00. Not bad I guess, but no where near the Amazon deal which is excellent.
