Hi!
Hmmm. It depends. T-Mobile Germany ships the Curve with a cute little fake-leather slip case. It's very narrow and has - tadaaaa - no clip at least. I always hated these cases with the not removable clip which was twice as thick as the unit itself.
I didn't find any pictures of it somewhere.
Greetings

Comes with a simple leather slide in case on O2 Uk. Suits me fine. I'm not one to have it hanging on my hip, at least this one protects it against coins, keys etc...
So yes they can come with a case - just depends on what provider you get them from

AT&T does not ship with a case. I hope T-Mobile will

rogers ships with a leather case but no holster. good for putting in the briefcase/bag/purse but defeats the purpose of having a thin phone if you carry it in your pocket like i do.

Purely IMHO...the reason AT&T fails to include a case with their branded 8300 Curve is to jump on the profit wagon that comes from aftermarket accessories. They figure that most people that buy the Curve, will also buy the OEM case from them (in AT&T COR stores at $29.99) so they can pick up a few stray dollars that they might have "given away" by showing their customers some appreciation...like the "old" Cingular did when they included a high-quality OEM case with the 8800.
Greed is an ugly thing...

Does anyone else realize that most phones don't come with a case? Now that BBs have gotten smaller and more pocketable, there's less need. The days of needing a holster for the 72XX series, et al, are gone.
It's probably profit bandwagon, too, but much is born out of lack of necessity.
But then again, everyone would be mad about how inferior the OEM accessory was, or that it was a case instead of a holster...or a holster instead of a case.
At least now you can buy what you want, which is never the same across the board.

Does anyone sell a simple slip case like this as an aftermarker?

I never carry anything else in the pocket with my phone but it would be nice to have a case when I wanted to put the phone in my brief case.

BlackBerry users have gotten used to having a case included with their devices. The 8300 being slim and sexy, and not needing a case theory doesn't wash, because the 8800 was promoted as the slimmest/sexiest full-qwerty BlackBerry to date when it was released...and it came with an OEM case (which is very high-quality I might add...) too...

Two completely different market shares, IMO.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)
Personally, I would've liked mine to come with a holster similar to the one for the 8700c. Does anyone know if something like that is available anywhere? Or advice as to whether or not the holster is a bad idea, leaving the camera lens exposed?

Absolutely true. Corporations that ordered 8800's for their legions of salespeople and representatives don't want to spend an additional $30 on a holster/pouch/case after the fact, because that eats into their bottom line. AT&T sees an available profit margin from the tech-hungry consumer market that will more likely buy the 8300 (camera, form factor) than the 8800...so by leaving the case out of the box...they know those buyers will probably spend another $30-100 on accessories before they even leave the store.
