Default BB 9000 is 3G enabled, right?!?!?

Please Login to Remove!

I've been considering an upgrade from my BB 8310 and have been considering the BB 9000 or BB 9700. While I like the size of my Curve, the 9000 is not much larger and the display and keyboard are awesome.

I was reviewing the specs on the RIM site and the specs for the 9000 do not mention that it is 3G enabled but all of the listings on eBay or CL state otherwise.

Please provide a reality check and let me know whether the BB 9000 is 3G enabled or not...thanks!

The 9000 is not compatible with T-Mobile's 3G, but it is 3G...

Exactly. It is att3g, not tmo.

For future ref. When checking specs, they may refer to 3G as HSDPA or simular

Thanks for the feedback and clarification.

I'm on AT&T so I will look for a phone built for that network.

Thanks again!

For some reason TMobile uses 1700 ghz for its 3g (HSPDA UMTS). As far as I know every other major carrier in North America uses 1900 ghz for their 3g. I believe that the 3g technology that TMobile uses is the same as other gsm (as opposed to CDMA) based carriers in North America, but they use a frequency (1700) that is different than what other gsm based cariers use for 3g.
If I am not mistaken RIM makes a 9700 bold 2 for TMobile (and lots of other carriers). I would be surprised if the 9700 made for TMobile would also work on the other carriers' networks. It may be that RIM does not show the specific frequencies supported as it may depend on which carrier the bold is designed for.

I wonder... since both AT&T and Tmo have the 9700 would it be possible to make one work on the other's 3G network just by replacing the radio cods?
