8320 without a data plan
Please Login to Remove!
Dear Mods,
I am about to get an unlocked tmobile BB 8320.....
However, the network I am on does not have BB service, the other network has it...but it is costly and I am not prepared to pay so much money for it.....what I wanna know is, since the 8320 has wifi, will I be able to check emails, use msn/yahoo/aol messenger while connected thru' wifi?....and will I be able to surf the net using another browser?..
Thanks

The built-in messenger applications will not work without a BB data plan but JiveTalk works fine via Wi-Fi.

To really utilize all of the BB features and to truly appreciate the functions of the device, I would suggest looking into a BIS or a BES plan. Otherwise, I'd much rather have purchased a much less expensive device for my basic needs.

Without a BlackBerry data plan, you cannot use any of the messenger application (aim, yahoo, google, msn). With wifi, you can check emails, by directing your phone's browser to the website that your email is on, but you cannot have it pushed to your phone. And, yes, with wifi, you can surf the web with the BlackBerry browser, or another browser, such as Opera Mini, which is what i use, because the webpages show up more like the way it should on computers.

The only way you can get push email is if you received the service books from your BIS.
If you don't have a Carrier's BIS, then you will have no email, and no IM apps.

I'm a TMobile costumer, and I have the 8320. And, at this moment, I have no dataplan. But, still can use the browser with WiFi at home, and in so many places. I'm able to surf the web, read the papers, check the scores and my email. There is only one thing: DO NOT try to download anything, videos, games, maps, or try to see videos, because you will feel it in your bill.

Newb question... I have no data plan on an unlocked 8320 in Canada on a Rogers network, if I use BB Maps to get directions or whatever, will that charge as Data usage?!!?
And if so, is it only free when connected to WiFi
Thanx

No Data Plan = No BlackBerry Maps = No Charge
You must have a BlackBerry data plan to use BB Maps
You can use Google Maps with a generic dat plan and will be billed based on that plan.
