Default file transfer to windows ce device

Please Login to Remove!

I am a surveyor and the data collectors I use run windows ce. I would like to transfer files between these two devices so I can then use the blackberry (tour) to email files back and forth to the office when our field crews have or need data. Any thoughs?

Does the Wince device have a SD card slot?

I guess that's your only choice. Too bad no SD slot.

The OP wants to get files off the wince device onto the blackberry, as I understand it, to then attach to email sent from the bb. And wince does not have sd card slot; just a usb port. At least that's what I understand.

And couldn't the OP put the microSD card from the BlackBerry into a card reader and plug that card reader into the USB port on the computer?

I guess if it were me, I'd have a laptop or such with me, plug in the blackberry with mass sorage enabled, and plug in the wince device, and copy the file over to the blackberry. That is, if the blackberry is the only device with a data connection, and the file isn't too big. If the laptop or netbook or whatever connects to the mobile network or to a hotspot, then why not just copy to the computer and email from there.

If the wince had a card slot, then you wouldn't need the computer. I wonder if that may be what the op was aiming for, eliminatig the need to carry the computer.

The problem is we are way up on the side of a mountain two hours walk from power, that sorta thing. A card reader would work I bet. I'm looking now to see if I can find a blackberry USB driver for Win CE. If I can find one I'm golden, any guesses? If not I can take it apart, find the adapter, drop it in the leaves then get it in the card reader etc.

pbo, are you thinking you might be able to use a card reader on the wince device via the usb? That would be great if you can do it, would eliminate the need to carry a computer.

If you can't connect a card reader directly to the wince device, then a netbook might be the next best solution. Or, switch to a wince device that does have a card slot.

Yep I'm sure a card reader would work. I can't find any blackberry drivers for wince. When I connect to the wince device it asks for a driver. Direct usb would be the most elegant and easier with frozen fingers! But short of that I think a card reader will do it

Yea there is. I got it to connect too, but am to much of a moron to know how to use it to look at files. It doesn't connect like a thumbdrive or hard drive. I can't use file explorer to view the files on the BB

What survey device are you using and where are you located? I have connected iDEN phones to survey equipment in the past and used them as wireless modems on trimble and other equipment.

Lexington, Va. We've done that for RTK also. I'm using a Ranger with TDS but it's mainly just to send txt files and job files for conventional surveying that I need it. Mainly I'd like to be able for the field crews to send stuff to the office have the office send stuff back to the field, upload and stakeout without having the crew shutdown for long. In the past we either run a thumbdrive back and forth or wait toll the next day.

first pair your blackberry with your data collector (make sure you exit your survey program Survey Controller or TDS) this can be done in windows explorer. hit the media icon on your BB and hit the BB button and scroll down to recieve using bluetooth. In your windows CE select programs and hit the file explorer icon. highlight the file you want to transfer and tap "menu" then "beam file". Be patient, it will say "infared tap to send" but wait! for it to pop up as unknown device or the name of your blackberry. Once this has happened hit the "tap to send" and it will transfer your file
