I'm just curious as to what would pass through a BES. I'm thinking about getting a hosted account, and I do some bank stuff through my BB browser. Would they be able to check that? I assume that they would be able to see all data going back and forth, and be able to read emails/PINs if they wanted to, right?

How about stuff like SMS?

The hosting company would be able to see the sites you visit on your BlackBerry. They would be unable to view your banking info however as long as you are not passing your Login information in Plain Text which I doubt any banks use that.

They would be able to view e-mail if they are hosting the Mailbox. PIN's are very safe with the current software.

So, your personal info, pins, etc. are safe. That's good to know.

What about a corporate or home office that has the BES -- can they read your e-mails as well? Can they see who you are sending e-mails to and who you are receiving from?

The BES is simply forwarding messages from the corporate mail system to and from your BlackBerry. The email nazis have always had the ability to read your Exchange\Notes\Groupwise emails. Also take into account that they have better things to do than read other peoples email.

Actually, just recently we were forced into using Lotus Notes for this reason. First day, I had about a dozen e-mails flagged and quarantined. They never went out and I didn't find out about it until a couple of days later. I knew when we moved over this was the reason so I should have known the BB was merely having e-mail forwarded.

I know that e-mails are screened for buzz words and the like so I am not worried about people reading my e-mails. I wouldn't be worried if they were. I don't write anything that could get me into trouble, LOL.
