Default Swisscom BOLD on Orange CH - no BB maps! HELP!

Please Login to Remove!

First off thanks for all the experieced members here who have helped me till now.

I managed to get my unlocked Bold working with Orange CH, they just needed to activate my BIS and i downloaded all the service books from Orange CH. I also went ahead and registered my phone on blackberry.orange.ch.

However, i just noticed I do not have the BB maps icon. The service book is there (blackberry maps EU), and the application can be seen through the desktop application manager.

I also tried downloading it from BB's website and it only says for OS ver. 4.1 and 4.2...thus it will not download...

Any idea what the cause is? Is there anyway I can fix this since i used to use BB maps on my old device a lot!

Any help would be appreciated!

Is it force-disabled like Orange does?

I have the same problem with Orange France, and I hate this. They do this to force you to subscribe to their crappy product. -- Real shame!

I have not heard about this, could someone elaborate? Could this really be the cause?

I tried with the Orange "expert service". They admitted that it was their choice "for best performance". Same with the browser.

Try to go on the Blackberry site from your device... it will tell you it does not recognize your device as a BlackBerry...

In good French this is called "brider". Sorry I do not know the exact word in English... the closest is "constrained" or "restricted". All operators in the world trust the RIM product, almost as is except the geniuses of Orange.

So we know for certainty that Orange France has blocked Blackberry Maps.

I also just contacted Orange CH and they are to get back to me with an answer shortly...however, the contact did say he was surprised that is "blocked".

Ok, i installed .162 (rogers) and nothing changed in regards to maps...however, orange CH released .162, and in reinstalled that...guess what, now i have maps in the options>advanced options menu, right under HRT.

This was not there before...

Now i just need to get the icon...gonna try uninstalling maps and installing it again...

I had tried this method before....I had read it on another forum...it did not work...

I decided to give a go after you posted today....and guess what...IT WORKED!!!!

I know what i did wrong...

In the HRT, you have to register both the 2XXXXXXX and the WIFI [60] one...

THANKS!

Okay, my Orange CH rep got back to me (very nice of him) and said that its true, BB Maps currently is not working due to compatibility issues.

They have no idea when it will be fixed and they are working on it.

In the meantime tech support said that (obviously) other map applications will work.

Hope this helps all those with questions on Orange CH in regards to this!

Sorry, but you buy this?

It is so obviously wrong. They have blocked the application so that they can sell you their monthly GPS subscription to the GPS service they market. A few carriers around the world are resorting to this approach.

well frankly...i don't think so because orange CH has never offered anything like this...

and i don't think they plan too...what i think is the deal is that the service books they might have adopted on their system seems to be the ones similiar to Att where the maps is blocked.

Ive done the trick noted above and i have my maps...and they swear that maps should be appearing and they dont know why its not...

i think they wouldnt bother lying to me - they just wouldve said ull have to pay more...

regardless i have my maps and im happy :P
