Default USB data cable/7290 question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, hoping someone can help. Can you use any USB to mini usb cable with the 7290. I have a Nokia cable that I have tried using and my laptop cannot recognize the phone. I have a BlackBerry cable on order but I read somewhere that any cable would work. When I connect the phone to my computer there is a constant sound which sounds like the phone is connecting and then disconnecting. Can anyone help with this?

Did you install BlackBerry Desktop Manager yet?
Any USB cable should work fine.

Are you connecting the USB cable directly to your computer, or are you using a USB hub of some kind?

Make sure it's connected directly to a powered USB port on your computer.
You might also try uninstalling Desktop Manager, and reinstalling it.

What version of Windows and Desktop Manager are you using?

You need a newer version of Desktop Manager if you're using Vista.
Download and install Desktop Manager version 4.3

Default USB data cable transfer on 7290

>You need a newer version of Desktop Manager if you're using Vista.
Download and install Desktop Manager version 4.3

With that version, available for the BB 7290, what can you do exactly? User manual does not detail. What data can be transferred to the PC, in what form? (Locally, without involving any broadband server service)

You can sync your PIM. Address Book, Calendar, Tasks and Memopad.
You can also use the application loader to install compatible applications on your device, as well as update the BlackBerry OS.
