Default New Bold???

Please Login to Remove!

I got a new BB Bold 9000 from rogers today. When I compare the new one to the older Bold that I have, i am noticing that the newer bold is slightly smaller and lighter. Did RIM change the BB hardware....or maybe I missed some announcement

The new Bold is the 9700, a different form factor than the Bold 9000 that you have.

You either have the "old" Bold (9000) or the new Bold (9700).

If you just bought the new one, there are a whole lot more physical differences other than just size. Is size the only thing you noticed. How about a different frame? How about no trackball (hard to miss that one)? How about a different back? How about different sides?

If you are comparing two 9000s, then you need new glasses. A 9000 is a 9000. The 9000 did not change sizes.

Funny...I already wear glasses...and got a new prescription lately...

Both devices are BB9000...with a trackball. The newer version is lighter and has smaller edges between the screen and backside....seems like a diff frame. In addition, the keys seem closer too. And finally, the holster for the new bold is less wide. I placed the 2 Bolds on the top of each other and there is a small but clear physical difference between the two.

Did RIM introduce the 9700 frame for the 9000

I'll try to take some pics....

Branding version (not sure if it means anything) is 1.0.107.47

Screen is brighter than the older bold...

No, a 9000 is a 9000.
They havent done anything to it.
The 9700 is a completely different device.

I held them both side by side the other day in a local Bell store. The 9700 is noticeably smaller, not unlike the Tour. The camera setup looks different too and of course the trackpad is a huge departure. That being said, I thought the 9000 felt more solid and went with it. No regrets at all.

A huge reason why I went with the 9000 (outside of the fact it was $150 less on a 3 year plan) was that it will work with most of the charger accessories I have kicking around. I have a lot of mini-USB chargers and charger cords around, both at home and the office (not to mention the car). I also use them to charge my Motorola handsfree and my GPS.

Getting a 9000 was a no-brainer for me. The smaller size was not an attraction to me. I used a 7250 and an 8830 in the past and the 9000 is small enough for me. I also like the trackball for the most part so the trackpad didn't do it for me. The 3.4 MP camera is not an attraction either as I use a real camera when I want to take a real photo. A camera in a phone is a gadget, not a serious photographic tool to me. 2.0 MP is more than enough for my needs.

Before I made the final decision to go with the 9000, I found lots of posts on this and other sites of people who went 9700 and then reverted back to the 9000. I think it's a great BB. I like it so much, I got my wife one too for 12/25.

I think you completely misunderstood the context of Raptor's post, and quite possibly, this whole topic.

this can always be due to the brightness settings of the device

pretty easy to change also ... go to: Options -> Screen/Keyboard -> Backlight Brightness you can set it between 10-100

Yup, I misread the initial post and thought he was comparing the 9700 to the 9000. I gladly gave my assessment of the two phones and then realized after posting that he was comparing the 9000 to an imaginary version of the 9000.

Duh on me.

Anyhow, I love the 9000 and just wanted the world to know about it.
