Default 9000 Bold UMA...Rogers?

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone tell me if the Rogers 9000 will have UMA?

And if I may add what does UMA do to the phone's capabilities.

Can I make calls through wifi?

Thanks...

yes the BOLD will have UMA... BUT!! you will not be able to use the wifi for browsing, only UMA.... at least this is what i have heard to date... still trying to verify if they are going to be doing this to the BOLD becasue they are doing it to the 8120

i have only had hands on experience on the 8320 with regards to a wifi berry,
and it did function via Wifi for browsing, as would any other device using wifi.

Does UMA only work if your connected to a rogers home phone network or will it work anywhere there is a wireless connection?

Also if wifi browsing is prohibited will there be a way around it?

UMA will work with any router as far i know... as for if there is a way around the restriction for WiFi, i doubt it... it will probably be programed into the firmware... i'm still trying to get a 100% confirmation on it tho

DUDE, just for the record, rogers doesnt cripple WiFi

the end all statement:
Empower and inform - with faster email downloads, web page loading and mobile streaming at broadband-like speeds on the 3G HSPA network or powered by Wi-Fi connectivity.

Nevermind. It was an old rumour and seems it is now incorrect.

LMAO! Man good thinking!

But seriously Rogers has messed with an HP WMPro device's WiFi before. What is to stop end users from loading another providers Firmware and getting Service Books updates from their BIS site or BES and use UMA along with WiFi Browser? Corey are you saying that Rogers plans to remove the WiFi Browser application??

the HP ipaq was an attempt, an unsuccessful attempt if memory serves me corectly. but regardless, in the past 12 months rogers has released numerous handsets with wifi intact. so i cant see why they'd start with the blackberry, especially when any1 purchasing a device of this caliber would likely be an enterprise user who needs a data plan to access their email via BES/BIS.

blackberry's with wifi arent threateneing to data revenues as youd need a data plan to access the device's email function! lol

^ that is true... but like i have said before... we will see once the device launches... i'll test it out on a 8120... if its desabled (wifi browsing) then we know the 9000 will be as well... and it wouldnt surprise me if they did... to get more $$
