Default Blackberry 9000 + 4.5. Solid info

Please Login to Remove!

First the 4.5 info, if you don't already know.

Quote:
3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Progressive download
Allows streaming and playback of media from web sites on the BlackBerry smartphone using the browser.
3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) Progressive download
Allows streaming and playback of media from web sites on Wi-Fi® enabled BlackBerry smartphones.
Music playlist support in the Media application
Create and edit playlists (in .m3u format) directly in the Media application on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Video recording
BlackBerry smartphone users can record video using the Camera by selecting the Video Camera icon. The following options may be selected to control settings:

* Video light - brightens dark environments to improve video recording
* White balance - control white balance of the camera; options include Automatic, Indoor, and Sunny
* Video format - use normal mode (240X180) or lower quality MMS mode (176X144)
* Store videos - decide where to save video files
* 4.5 (re-branded from 4.3.1) is in Carrier Evaluation now. Should be delivered near end of March.
*4.5 offers documents to go, which is a word/excel (ithink) attachment editor so you can modify attachments directly on your device.
There are some new Enterprise Voice options if you are on a BES. (SIP/Ascendant)
Blackberry 9000
Quote:
* No on the touchscreen for the 9000.
* The 9000 is about the same size of the 88xx, but is actually heavier.
* It will include WiFi, GPS and be a true 3G HSDPA phone.
* Just a note the 9000 is at least 6-8 months away. The current battery life on standby is only 7 hours. Not acceptable to BB standards.
* I'm personally running an 8310 as the 9000 battery life wouldn't even get me through a morning with all the usage I do.
* Don't expect any revolutionary visual (lcd)/touch screen stuff for the 9k.
It is not a device being developed for that reason, but more around new radio technology.
My Question
Would it be a valid conclusion that the 9000 is not a touchscreen but there will in fact be a RIM touchscreen making it's appearance this year under a different name/model number?

(2)Is there more than one new Blackberry model making it's appearance in the middle of 2008 then?

His/Her Answer
You may assume sir, but not confirmed by anyone. /wink

(2)I know of 4 at least.
For all of 2008.

Browser - WRU FLASH SUPPORT!?!?

Hats off to Apple for their interface. It's the best I've ever seen.

We currently have nothing to compete with it. Nothing coming soon either.
At least that I know about.

a) who did you ask for this "solid" info
b) nothing new in that post about the 9000. 7hr standby life doesnt make sense though, not unless you are running apps. without any real load on the battery just having the device sitting there without sending/receiving shouldnt kill the battery at all.
c) it is almost a guarantee, judging by RIMs past releases, that the device releases will be staggered throughout the year.

Still sounds like a winner to me, as long as they can fix that battery issue :P hehe.

I don't feel the need to post every single time I have some random opinion off the top of my head.

But, lets not turn this into a flame thread, I view this area for the same reason everyone else does, to get the facts.

I will definitely continue to ask every little detail that I can so I can stay informed as well as passing any information along over here, but if you guys don't want a heads up on what I'm being informed than I'll just keep it to myself.

EDIT: answer to the battery question

Quote:
CDMA/EvDO devices and 3G devices take more power to run. It's a requirement of the radio's. I'm not sure of the technical reasons for this, but it is a known issue with these devices.

We are trying a different Li-on battery on these to hopefully provide some longer life.

I googled a hardware analysis for 3g to read up on battery life and here are interesting reads for you guys. Apparently a lot of other companys are trying to figure out how to extend battery life on 3g phones as well.

AnandTech: No 3G on the iPhone, but why? A Battery Life Analysis

Quote:
Since the iPhone's launch this summer, one of the primary complaints has been slow data speeds, as result of the decision to limit the iPhone to EDGE speeds. Jobs said that the decision to not include 3G support in the iPhone initially surrounded how it would impact the iPhone's battery life. He called the chips used for 3G technology "real power hogs" and that battery life of 3G devices hover in the sub-five hour range.

No it would be a stupid conclusion, they won't be doing this as soon as this year, but of course they're playing around with these types of ideas, who isn't???

Err.....yes, there will be around four new devices across the globe this year as confirmed by RIM in a recent interview (I think it was their head of marketing or something). This is their average when you consider rebrands and EVDO models

CDMA is a very power hungry technology.

Don't mean to be a fire starter , but I just read the "analysis" you're referring to (about 400 words, not much of analysis, especially with 2 lethargic bar graphs.) Anyway, the analysis is nothing more than what we already know. 3G eats up a battery more than EDGE. We already knew/know that.....
