Thumbs up Why the BB 9000 Videoconferencing Rumors Aren't True

Please Login to Remove!

I'm sure you've all heard the latest BlackBerry 9000 rumor that says it will feature a front facing camera for videoconferencing.

I really don't think this device is going to have a front-facing camera. This blog post list a few good reasons why.

That sure would be cool, though...

Does make a lot of sence. Unless RIM are going to redesign the 9000 between now and release, then its not going to be having a frount-facing camera.

So sick of just about every blog etc about BlackBerry mentioning the iphone!

It's a neat idea, that obviously has some inherent challenges to be worked out beforeit is deployed.

Had a bunch of phones with front facing cam, never used it once. Many things may sound good on paper, but in practice is a different story.

I definitely agree with you. At my past job people wanted their pda's and smartphones to do everything except walk their dog but they didn't use half of the features that were actually on it.

well I use every feature on mine now and again, (even the camera, which is the least used feature) and I would be camping out if it would walk my dog for me. Think it would take probably a 500lb phone in order for him not to pull it around, but would be worth it!

It can be possible that the video-conference phone will be the 9100? So I guess time will tell if it is true or not.

The camera could easily be concealed behind the smooth glassy surface, not sticking out like on my Nokia N95. It's a big deal for lots of business users to do video conferencing, especially in Europe where 3G has been used for a lot longer than in the U.S.

Battery life will only take a hit if you use the video conferencing feature a lot. When it's not in use, it doesn't effect the battery, naturally. Users will have to decide how much to use it and judge their batty life remaining accordingly. That's what the Europeans to with mobiles like the Treo. Blackberrys have been getting shorter and shorter battery life as features are added, like GPS, WiFi, etc, and as color screens get bigger and bigger. I don't think the video camera will be ditched just because it's one more thing to drain the battery. I fully expect to see it.
