Is anyone else out there suffering problems after updating? After my last couple of Blackberry updates, my 9700 suffers slowdowns, freezes and blackouts, its spam protection is wiped clean and has to be restarted from scratch.

What SPAM protection?

If your device is working as you want and need, I never recommend an update. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it via and OS upgrade. Read the 9700 section and maybe revert tothe last update that worked the way you wanted.

Ever since I updated to o6, the zoom on both my videocamera and picture camera don't seem to function.

Try pulling the battery out of the phone while the phone is on. Wait about 1 minute and re-install. That worked for me when I had the zoom problem.
