Thumbs up A new version of EV-DO is on it's way.

A new version of EV-DO is on it's way. The specs for EV-DO Rev. C which will be called Ultra Mobile Broadband are scheduled to be published in the first half of 2007 and released some time after that. UMB will feature speeds of up to 280Mbps. By contrast, the current version of EV-DO has a maximum speed of 3.1 Mbps.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I was at a Verizon Symposium a couple of months ago, and they talked about it, so I can confirm that I heard the same thing that robbym did.

Speaking to our Verizon rep a while back, I can confirm that for Rev B, you WILL need new handsets due to the new chipsets required for comm with Rev B protocol. I would assume the same would be required for Rev C.

from what i have been reading UMB supports inter-technology handoffs with other technologies including existing CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO systems, but not really a rev of EVDO.
