This is an enhanced version of the "BlackBerry as a Flashlight" type program. For all devices it simply puts up a screen and sets the backlight to 100%. For devices with a polychromatic status LED like the 81xx, 83xx, 88xx (and maybe others), it will set the status LED very bright.

Not much to describing this. Basically turns your BlackBerry into a flashlight. Works best if you have a device that has the polychromatic status LED as it will turn it on bright. Currently only tested on the 8100 Pearl with 4.5 OS though it should work on almost any device with a 4.2 OS or higher.

Have either of you loaded the video recorder app from the 83xx onto your 8100 to use the camera flash as a flashlight? It works perfectly for me.

This app works nicely for the 8800 series as it does not have a camera.

I have another flashlight ap - I think a very inexpensive one, but it doesn't do anything with the LED, just the screen, which is better than nothing, but pretty useless. Hopefully, this will be better.

That's a lot of memory used just for a flashlight app.

Putting a useless video app on the Pearl just to get the flashlight...But now looking at the bare video app I guess it's not that big.

For a different program to use, which is small but I use quicknote that was created by Mark Rejhon. Its a good for taking notes/using the clipboard but also with pulling it up using the keyboard shortcut makes an easy flashlight with the all white background.

I created this file, and then uploaded both files to my website. I navigated to freelight.jad on my phone and it just pulled up all of that code on the screen. Any ideas?

You need to configure your webserver to properly serve up OTA files, a bit offtopic for this thread (I was referring to putting these files on your Media card, why not just do that?). You can read a blog post of mine on how to configure Apache here:

The only reason I wanted to do it from the website is I'm at work and these workstations are locked down so I can't hook up my blackberry to it to copy the files over. It's no big deal though. I'll just wait until I get home. Thanks for the info!

I am working on getting my web host to allow me to put up COD files (they don't allow that now for some reason).
