I havea BB 8900 Curve which aught to be a wonderful bit of kit but as it is it's a heap of junk becauseit is password protected and encrypted. So to use it at all I have to type a password in every single time, and I am unable to download photos to my PC (and I find its a pretty good camera) as they are encrypted (.jpg.rem files).

The most annoying thing is my colleague in exactly the same job has the same 8900 with no password and no encryption ( amistake on the part of our IT department). Had a quick browse through it today - how refreshing to pick it up and simply USE it.


I have read that removing the policy (apart from risking your job) would result in it being put back on by the server, but this obviously isn't happening with hers.

Basically I want one like hers - that works - I may even have to buy myself my own first mobile phone to overcome all the grief thjis gives me,

Not to try and encourage you to circumvent a policy ...a while back we looked at storage card encryption and found that it was file and folder based...so media files in only their default location would be encrypted, as would documents etc. I came away thinking that if files were placed in other locations on the media card they would not be encrypted...it would be interesting as an experiment to know if you stored, say photo's, in a location other than the default location, perhaps trying a newly reformatted media card, if they'd be encrypted...you could drag and drop them back and forth without using the media manager...if you do the experiment, be sure you don't use anything irreplaceable...
