Unhappy 8900 - Was charging then dead.....?

Please Login to Remove!

Hiya,

I've had 8 months of problem free Curve usage, messed with plenty different software packages and was running a hybrid for the last 2 months or so.

Woke up this morning, phone was in its usual overnight standby so pressed the red button to wake it up, looked at the time and realised it only had 1 bar of battery left so plugged charger in and charge light came on.

Went downstairs for breakfast and when I cam back up phone was off and showing no sign of life.....since then I've only been able to get the 'Blackberry' logo to come on twice and the red LED flashing.....

Now when I put the battery in (which is showing 3.8v on multimeeter) the red LED comes on solid for about 30 seconds then goes off and nothing else happens.......

If I plug the USB in and plug battery in the phone shows up on the laptop as unkown device and when the red LED goes out it shows nothing on the laptop at all. :( :(

Is my phone dead?

First, batteries can show ok wrt voltage when there is no load, but then put a load on the battery and you find it is bad or going bad.

From your description it sounds like leaving the device to charge will not be worthwhile. You could try. But if it were me I would go ahead and try another battery. Borrow one if you can.

Cheers for the reply.

Shouldnt my 8900 switch on without the battery in? With just the charger plugged in?

You would think so, but no. Even on charger, you'll get the battery error icon on the screen without a battery in the device. Don't ask me why.

I don't get the battery error icon without a battery. (well, I saw it once after pulling the battery for over an hour)

I wouldnt of minded if i'd dropped the phone or something, but I didnt, it was just sat on my desk charging......

The same thing just happen to me my wife's 8900 has been very buggy lately so I was going to transfer her info into a spare 8900 I had. The week before it was working just fine I went to charge it and it wouldn't charge. I charged the battery in an external charger put back in the 8900 and it wouldn't turn DM recognizes the 8900 but it just won't turn on.
Any suggestions?

Replace the battery with a new OEM one.
