Thanks for the help. I didn't know this.

The problem is i don't know anyone with BlackBerry, i'm the only one among my friends.

NVM then, i guess i'm doomed to 4.6 - i was really looking forward to threaded sms...yeah well, bummer.

Thanks again for the help!

Default Same issue, but on XP, and no vendor.xml to be found

Greetings all-

I'm stumped. I've lost count the number of times I've upgraded device OSes over the years. But I can't get the current OS (8900 v5.0.0.1168/5.0.0.681 (EastAsia)) to actually upgrade a user's device; I get what Noodle22 kept getting. Here's what I've done thus far:

Backed up device via BBDM 5.0.1.x
Downloaded & installed new OS
Deleted vendor.xml from the apploader dir
Tried upgrade, but nothing is changed (but it says that the update completed)
Uninstalled -ALL- RIM products from my PC (shotgun approach, I know)
Deleted remaining RIM files from Program Files
Removed -ALL- registry entries containing "Research In Motion"
Rebooted
Re-installed new OS
Deleted vendor.xml
Searched PC for other vendor.xml files (even though I'm on XP)
Re-tried upgrade, but nothing changed

I'm out of ideas... anyone out there have any?

TIA

*sigh*

Problem solved, tho not entirely sure why. I reinstalled BBDM, and when I started it to restore my user's device, it told me that it had new updates for the device:the Shiny New OS that I had been trying to install this whole time. Must have been some errant DLL or whatnot.

Glad I have off on Friday. :-D

Hello Everybody

I'm in trouble with my update as was Noodle22.

My system:
Vista 32 SP1 and Mac OS 10.5 (dual boot on MacBook Pro)
DM 5
BB 8310 4.2.2 (unblocked). I want go to 4.5
Carrier: Oi Brazil
No BIS, no BES

I did all on JC's post and here but my update is not recognized.

No vendor.xml was found (by search with hidden option and with by cmd)

Any tip more will be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to update to OS 5?

If you are then your problem is that you need BIS/BES activated on your device in order for it to update from 4.6 to 5.0.

Welcome to the forums. You say you have an 8310 (according to your profile). You must have the OS installed on your PC for the 8310 and not the 8300, 8320, 8330, etc.

If it is for your carrier, then you don't need to remove the vendor.xml file. There is something else going on.
