Same exact thing happened to me. It was right after I updated a few apps and set up my phone with a gmail account. Got a call from a familiar number, but no photo or name.

Interesting difference: Contacts list was still there, but if I tried to search it, no results would appear! Pulled the battery, and viola, they were all gone.

I suspect the problem was syncing with gmail. It grabbed all my contacts in a cut and paste fashion, instead of a copy and paste fashion. Grrr.

My solution was to download and install the google sync app, to restore the list on my phone from my newly generated gmail contact list. It made a lot of duplicate entries, but at least I didn't lose all the info.

Just wanted to say thanks did exactly what you mention on here then I clicked on Contacts right clicked clicked on View All and MAGIC all my Contacts came back to life jejejejeje...

How do you get back in and turn off the unsync? I'm having this contacts issue on my 8530 too. Just got the contacts added Thursday...grr.

Sorry to keep posting in here, but I deleted the Gmail app and my contacts came back! WEIRD! Trying to reinstall it with limited access to see if it does it again.
