I have a dumb question, but it can be usefull for me:

We have bought a blackberry in Belgium, with our carrier Proximus (also from Belgium) and it's connected to our BES (ofcourse in Belgium). Now I want to move to Germany and assign a BB subscription with T-mobile. Will my blackberry be able to communicate with our BES in Belgium. I believe it's possible, but those guys from T-mobile in Germany believe not. They said to me that all registered IMEI numbers from outside Germany will not work in Germany or can communicate to any BES.

Who knows this better than T-mobile?

It should work because the BES is actually network agnostic. I am in Asia and we have connected to BES's in Hong Kong, Singapore, the US, and other countries. I am quite sure, though, that we have never connected to a BES in Belgium or Germany but it should work.

As for the registered IMEI from outside Germany not working in Germany, that is actually a good question. Assuming the handheld is not sim locked, and you use a T Mobile SIM with BlackBerry activated, you should be ok. I know that the network can track IMEIs logging into the network but I would not understand why the operator would block an IMEI / handset that was not issued by them.

There are two elements here. The first is the relationship between the BES and the carrier handhelds, and as zChris correctly states, there is not relationship between BES and a carrier, you can have handsets on multiple networks on a single BES as BES looks for a device PIN to relay messages to, not a mobile number.

I think T-Mobile are talking rubbish, if you couldn't use a BlackBerry in another country, then you could never go roaming!!! I think their statement was made out of self preservation of capital rather than what is technically possible!!! Devices tend to be SIM locked so you couldn't use another carrier SIM in a T-Mobile BB, but I don't believe that's what you were asking T-Mobile when you questioned them.
