It's a compelling business proposition to companies trying to reduce their cell phone bills for their mobile workforce. Imagine a salesmen that travels out of country - he finds a hotspot, turns on his client, and calls the office or home as a free call.

I think that RIM is missing an opportunity here, I think history has shown over and over again that closed standards do not drive good business.

There are clients on their way, if you find one, please post it hear, I'd love to try one out before I have to give up my Blackberry due to none being available. Surely, we can get one released soon......
Actually,I communicated with my engineer who has capability to develope sip phone for Symbian&WM.Due to different development language ,there have more works to do,such as transplate from C to java platform. Also ,there shoud be using SIP stack ,RTP,etc. In other words,it's should be spend high cost to develope one SIP client for Blackberry.

At last,I wish someone have good financial to support us to develope it .

I would only say that if they put the effort into developing a java app it will work across many platforms. Wel . . . at least I think that's the concept. Maybe it doesn't work that way.

I was so sick of my $h17 Storm that I got an iPhone.

haha oh wow.

i'd still love to being able to connect to the many access points all around and being able to call at very low rates like i do at home.
it's almost unconceivable to see that we have a phone with wifi and nothing to link them both , software-wise!

There is another BlackBerry SIP VoIP client for Bold/Curve. It's still in Beta testing phase but works pretty good. You can use it with any standards based SIP capable PBX including Asterisk and most SIP providers.

You can check it out here:

Default Re: SIP Softphone Client

fg's SIP VoIP client for Blackberry is now released.

Works with any SIP PBX or Provider and does what you would expect it to.

There is a 14 day try version at shop.fgmicrotec.com
