Default Question about DST change

Please Login to Remove!

Starting Monday I'll be applying the DST patches to all of the Blackberries that I manage (about 20-25). However, a thought just crossed my mind. Whenever I deploy a new Blackberry handheld I usually set it to use Network Time as opposed to Blackberry time. I've always thought this to mean that it pulls the time from the provider's data network (Cingular in our case) rather than from the device itself (I could be wrong).

My question is, do the devices that use Network time still need the DST patch applied, or would that only apply to those that are on Blackberry time?

I would say no matter what time you select you would still need the DST patch as Cingular or whoever will not change the time instantly for all of their devices. they have alot of devices, But who knows. Regular phones change instantly when DST happens. This time it's different though, because the govment has changed the DST.

Thanks, ZeroKool. I'll do it just to be safe. Has anyone done this yet that can tell me of any potential issues that may arise?

I have done this on several handhelds, no problems really on the BB side. Tons of trouble at the Exchange/Outlook level.

Try asking the same question in the BES Admin section. Or maybe the mods will move it there.

Good luck.

It may just be a coincidence, but I loaded it on my 8700C and now I am getting nonstop JVM 545 errors.

I haven't ever downloaded anything else or done much more than change the default theme and hide a couple of icons on the desktop.

So I do find it interesting that it chooses now to go belly up. I have had it for around 6 months and basically just use it to read my work email, since it is their device.

To be clear, THIS user had an issue. However, the majority haven't. I've downloaded it for 6 or 7 users around me...no issues on any of them.

Installed it on a 7100t....no problems. Still waiting for our BES admins to push it to my 8100.

The BlackBerry equivalent of yelling Fire in a theatre. We've downloaded the patch to hundreds of BBs with no issues either.

I've pushed it to my BB and that of another admin here. How can I verify that the patch was successfully installed?

On the BB go into Options and it is the top item in the list - click and it should give you the status - applied etc....

What do you mean by "it" is the top item. My Options list is alphabetized and the first item is About. Can you please elaborate?

Once you've successfully downloaded the patch, the first item in your Options folder should be "2007 DST Patch". When you click on this, it will read "2007 DST patch applied." The patch is easy to download and install and requires a reboot.

BTW, Blackberry users aren't the only ones who have to deal with a DST patch. All WM users are going through their own DST patch install. I wish the guys in Congress would actually think about the ramifications of things before doing something...not like that's happened before.

Have those that have applied the DST patch, had calendar appointments? If so, are they listed for the correct time?

I have applied the patch, it is listed in options as having been applied - the bb has the correct time BUT an appointment for March 16th is listed for 2:00 when it should be listed for 1:00. It is correctly listed in Outlook for 1:00. All patches for Outlook and the exchange server have been applied prior to doing the BB dst patch.

On another user I am trying to assist, his time and his appointments are all one hour BEHIND. At 8:44, his time was 7:44 - all of his appointments are also incorrect.

Any ideas?

I also applied the patch and NOTHING has changed-the handset clock and all of my appointments are an hour off. Pulled the battery, no change. Any thoughts? Thanks!

My recurring appts are correct; my non-recurring appts are one hour off and my phone is set to network time, but my phone time is one hour off?

If everything was consistently one hour off I would understand.

I am with Exchange My Mail, if that makes a difference.

Successfully installed BB DST 2007 on all my BIS users last week (Nextel & Sprint) - no problems encountered, worked great!

My handset clock and calendar all synced on their own after my last post. I did change locations (left my home for the office), wondering if RF was a factor (I get a pretty low signal at home). Anyway, I'm good now.
