Each os update thread has detailed instructions. Don't unplug your blackberry while it is upgrading.

I have been using BBs for years and am an early adopter of new os's and have never bricked one.

pav, look at the top of the 9000 section here if you have a 9000 Bold.
You will see the "Latest OS" thread at the top with directions, very simple.

Here is my two cents. If your device is working as you want and need, then why try to fix what isn't broken? The forums are full of upgrades gone wrong and thinks not working exactly as they had before, not meaning to scare, but just to say it does happen. And, we generally only get the bad stories, not the good.

If you decide to do it, follow the directions exactly and be patient. It can take an hour or more to complete. In most cases everything goes well. But it is an electronic device and it is software.

And make sure that you make a good back up.

I am a firm believer in the old adage, if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it.

I think for pav the device isn't working as desired.

And I know I'm probably too late, but here is my advice (some is repeat):

0 - Do a full backup before you do anything else.

1 - Use a reliable computer. Is your Windows flakey? Use another computer. No UPS? Don't risk it if you can remember when the power blinked last. Laptop or netbook? Plug it in. Don't try and do it with the latpop or netbook on battery.

2 - As noted on the forum numerous times, don't use a hub or keyboard or monitor USB connection.... Use a connection on the computer. If using a laptop or netbook, set a power mode where the computer will not go into standby or shut down the usb port.

3 - Follow the directions and be patient. There will be a point where you are sure it has crashed. Leave it alone. Wait until confirmation that it is complete.
