Long story short users are using the facebook application and need to stop it. I've looked and created an IT policy to use only the MDS browser and remove all other browsers. But i still can't see where I can block certain URL's or applications.

I thought about routing all BES browser traffic through our ISA server but I can't find the configuration on how to do this anywhere so gave up on that.

I can't be the only guy who ever needed to block certain sites or applications from user's blackberry's yet I can't find a consensus on how this is easily accomplished.

Any help is appreciated thanks!

All of my internet traffic flows out through my firewall. There i do content inspections for attachments on emails. I do browsing blocking through openDNS. OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet

Just a question, are you looking to block the application due to lack of productivity because they're all using it, or due to it eating up bandwidth or causing traffic? I use it here and as an admin I've considered blocking it because I can see it causing productivity issues, just looking for a way to talk to management about the options. Alternatively if you are worried about productivity, is there a method of restricting it to certain hours when users would normally be working?

Yes I want to pass all traffic through my ISA and block it there, however I am new to BES and relatively new to ISA I used it five years ago but not since then. the configuration is complicated and I can't figure out how to do it. I can understand that is what I am supposed to do, but the doing it is the hard part.

I worked in one large company that used BES but even though I'm an Exchange admin I never touched it, one guy was desginated BES admin and another backup.

As for ISA it's been five years and I'm rusty and I still hate it...

I want to block it merely because a VP saw an employee using it on their blackberry during a meeting and it sent him through the roof. so i got the call to block it, and i'm sure i'll have to block a lot of other stuff too.

This is assuming that you need to block access to FB on BBs but NOT over web browsing on company PCs etc. If they want to block FB from everywhere, it might be easier to get BES to browse via corporate standards (ISA) and block FB on ISA.

I do have a question on the instructions. it states:

Copy the BlackBerry smartphone installation files (the .alx and .cod files) to the <my_applications_name> folder.

I'm trying to block facebook company wide do I have to do it per phone? Where do I get the alx and cod files too?

Hey, sorry, am in the UK so am just heading out the door to dinner. I will look at this tomorrow...

In a nutshell:
you can apply the policy to all users once setup
I will have to have a search, you need an OTA deployment of the facebook app
