Default Google Maps voice search - working for VZW customers?

Please Login to Remove!

I have Google Maps w/voice search, but every time I try it, G Maps tells me that my phone signal is too weak, and to try again later.

Is this a just me issue (i've been having problems w/calls and am getting a new BB next week) or does voice search just not work on VZW, or ?

I have Verizon and the voice search works for me. And it might go without say, but it seems to work better when in a quiter environment.

Thanks...appreciate the feedback. I'll try it again on my wife's Pearl and see how it goes.

A little more info on my experiences,
1) I believe technically the version of google maps with voice search is beta, and I have read other places that it doesn't work all the time. The most difficulty I have is getting it to recognize what I'm saying. Phonetically speaking, my voice is pretty normal. I also know simpler words are recognized easier. For what it's worth, I'm assuming that GOOG411 and google maps use the same voice recognition software, and with GOOG411 some words it just can't recognize.

2) If your phone is telling you that it's having problems connecting, and you're having issues with calls in general that sounds like a hardware problem for your phone. Is your wife's phone working properly?

I have no idea if any of this was helpful, but nonetheless its out there.

Off topic and out of curiosity what kinda call problems are you having?

Thanks...someone else posted that there is an issue w/OS 4.5 and GM voice search. So that may be it, but the fact that it failed on my wife's Pearl as well (OS 4.3) means that the voice search has issues beyond OS compatibility.

My voice is pretty average in timbre/tone, never had problems w/any other voice-activated SW.

As for my call problems - I've been having low signal issues in places where my wife's phone woud have 1XEV, I'd have 1X and sometimes even show now signal. The worst was the other night where I was unable to make or receive any calls for about 3 or so hours (maybe more - I'm not sure exactly when the problems started). I was with my son and a friend of his who are both on VZW and they were full 1XEV, and able to call/receive fine. My replacement BB will be here from VZW on Tuesday, so hopefully that will resolve these issues.
