I dunno if this has been already posted or not, however, I was talking with a RIM rep the other day who said, "the pearl will not come out for CDMA. The pearl is to slim to carry a BB cdma battery." Then he went on as to how CDMA uses more battery life than GSM, and if the Pearl was going to CDMA it would have to be much thicker than it is now... just to hold good battery life.

I find that logic silly.
My 8703 is almost identical in size to the 8700g.
The Motorola RAZR is identical irregardless of the technology.
If RIM keeps selling the Pearl like they are, you'll see them around summer

that's just what he told me. He said if they put the pearl out for CDMA with the current battery, the battery life on it would be VERY VERY SHORT. So, he said RIM had no plans to introduce the pearl to the CDMA market

I've always heard GSM takes more battery life than CDMA a quote from Wikipedia, "Extended battery life because of effective power control. "

Wiki is wrong.... google it. plenty of sites like C-net that say CDMA uses more battery life than GSM

CDMA does burn through battery life faster than GSM.

True. As to someone's earlier comment about the RAZR, the CDMA version IS slightly thicker.

I have heard as well that the Pearl is NOT coming out for Verizon...

my buddy talked to someone at Verizon that said the Pearl would be available on Verizon 2nd quarter '07.

I'll check tomorrow and see who exactly told him this, as it seems to conflict with general consensus!

As someone noted above, the argument re battery life makes no sense given the fact that Moto has released their super thin RAZR in CDMA without a problem.

If Moto can do it, RIM can as well with the Pearl.

In fact, there are many thin CDMA phones out there.

I have heard that the Sprint Pearl should be out around May. This came from the account rep for my Fortune 10 company.

Have you used these phones and experienced the extremely crappy battery life? Just because the phones were released that doesn't mean that they performed well. I have used the Samsung A900 and the Motorola RAZR V3m and the battery life of these phones is god-awful compared to their GSM equivalents.

So we have a bunch of speculation and no concrete source. The most reliable source sounds like the RIM rep I talked to

But they did say q2 of 07 also...
