Default Limmit on text messages?

Please Login to Remove!

I was writing up a text message and after I used up the first 160 characters it wouldn't let me type anymore. Before, with my old BB, it would continue typing, and it would simply break up the message into several messages. Is there a way I can fix this?

I'll jump on this bandwagon too. My Curve wouldn't let me go past 160 either. Haven't tried it yet with my Tour. Seems everyone who sends texts to me has a phone that will automatically split the message if it's too big.

I'll just add my vote to agree with this. My 8830 didn't allow it and neither will the Tour -- but everyone else's phone seems to automatically split!

mine does it as well, when i was on Tmo, my phones didnt do it-- they split the messages. On VZW, it will make you stop without automatically splitting the messages

def not a CDMA thing as regular cell phones w/ verizon will break them up... I will put my vote in for this however...

One work around is to just send an MMS with no picture attached. It will let you type 1000 characters.

It's not Verizon, it's the phone.

My Motorola Q9c with Windows Mobile would automatically split long messages into multiple texts.

This would definitely be a worthwhile feature to add to Blackberry phones.

The limitation is definitely imposed by the carrier. This has been discussed at great length in other threads here. The ability to split a oversized message appears to be device-specific.

It is a device specific thing. When my daughter went from a regular cell to the Curve, we asked and the rep said the Blackberry limits to 160 char. It's inconvenient but it does give you a character count at the top of the message so you know when you are getting to the end. I wish they would change it to split the message. Seems like the plain cell would be the one to limit and the smartphone would do the split...

No blackberry on TMo, that I know of, had this limitation. Why is it then happening with VZW BlackBerry's?

The 160 character limitation is imposed by Verizon on BlackBerrys only.

No one knows why.

For instance, my 9530 on ATT does not have the limitation. It is not a limitation of the device, or the OS, it is imposed by Verizon on the device.

Sprint does the same thing on BlackBerry devices as well.

It's a tactic to increase sales, more messages = more income (charged to those who text without a texting plan).

Now that I do believe...just like making a big deal out of the Tour having the Visual Voicemail and then charging a monthly fee for it.

We were with Alltel and I am still not convinced that I am going to be happy with Verizon, however, we didn't get a choice.
