I can confirm it does not work on my Curve. It's still using cell tower triangulation.

Default Google Maps 3.0.2 and vzn 8830 - boooooo!

I started google maps last night on my way home from work; it wanted to automatically upgrade me to the latest version. So I let it.

I have a vzn 8830 OS 4.5.0.135; after the upgrade, as before, there was no gps! Only cell tower triangulation. It placed me within 3300 meters of my location. Okay, so I'm in a kinda rural part of Virginia, just west of Richmond, so the cell towers aren't close together. (Was it THAT obvious?)

I do like the traffic warnings, but I don't know how - or how often - that part gets updated. Anyone know?

For example, my wife called me at work to tell me about a bad accident which completely blocked the southbound lanes of a toll road I typically use to get home so that I could use an alternate route. I left work a little later than planned, and thought that the accident would be cleared by the time I got there, about 45 minutes after my wife called. Sure enough, the roadway was clear with traffic flowing well. Google Maps' traffic still showed that traffic was at a standstill.......

Google maps and WLS don't have a track up mode, just north up.

I find WLS to be more accurate at traffic reporting than Google. I'm in the NJ/NYC area where traffic delays are considerable. Two hours at the GW Bridge this morning because of an earlier accident! Other than traffic and movies, I like google maps for everything else.

The crippling of phones is why I dumped Verizon. Although the AT&T 3G network and frequent dropped calls has me on the edge of making another move.

I hear you in regards to Verizon. I had a motorola e815 phone from them and it was locked. I couldn't even use a USB cable to transfer pics to it and Verizon charged us 0.25 cents per pic.

I think Verizon users ought to consider a class action suit against Verizon because it's YOUR phone and you should have the right to put whatever software will run on it. In fact, I'm surprised there hasn't been a class action suit over this at this issue yet.

What good is any GPS without track up? It's just a moving map then...maybe 3.0.3 Google? Earth is great, so please focus on maps!

Hi all,

I'm new in the GPS / location based software, but I just wanted to share that google lattitude is really great. I installed yesterday, and added several friends.

It was awesome.

Anybody else?

Yup but you have to agree to their TOS and I'm sure they've done the necessary CYA. If you're really bothered by that then leave them. Money talks.

Depends on your needs/preferences. In-car nav requires automatically advancing directions and voice prompts IMO (why I don't use Google Maps for in-car nav).

No idea. We have a real-time traffic page (calculates freeway speeds based on toll road transponders) accessible via the web around here that I rely on as it's more accurate than any of the other options.

That's only relevant for VZW customers. The 8310's GPS receiver & Google Maps have worked together for ages.

V3.0.2 is all I use for GPS navigation! I haven't had any issues with it installed in my 9000 series.

hey guys... i've been searching and can't really find anything about this: besides lattitude, is there any other functional difference between 3.0.2 and 2.3.2?

thanks!
