Pressing and holding green phone button does what for you .....
Please Login to Remove!
I'm sure it used to bring up contacts, but since I upgraded it now only shows the call log. I used to use this because it always opened the book at a without any prefilled letters.
I know you can use the shortcut 'A' and bring up the contacts, but doing this on mine reopens the address book at the last entry I was at.
Any ideas on how to get this back ?
I'm currently on 4.5.0.108/4.5.0.81

I use the A shortcut for the address book. I don't understand how yours opens with pre-filled letters. When you finish in the address book, just exit out, or escape out, which will clear the prefilled letters.

A brief press on the SEND button brings up the call log. Holding it brings up the address book.

Ok it seems to work for some and not others. Looks like I'll just have to live with it.
JSanders, all I meant was I sometimes look up contacts simply to get addresses and such, and then exit by pressing RED phone. Then next time when I press the 'a' shortcut, it switches to contacts with the letters prefilled I had in last time. When I used to use the "green phone button long press method" to reopen the contacts, it wouldn't happen.
Anyway, I think in light of what's happening in the world at the moment, this is kinda small fry. Thanks for the responses.

It seems that with the updated OS versions they have essentially combined the two functions (address book for search and dial directly on the call log screen). When I press the send key (either quickly or holding it) I too get the call log. If I then start pressing keys I get numbers in the upper display field but also a series of search results below. Select a specific contact and it expands to show their numbers. It is an interesting amalgamation of the two functions as I remember them from earlier releases.

I understand that.
You might train yourself to pressing the escape key twice to exit the address book.
