PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BEFORE POSTING A RESPONSE! I BELIEVE THIS WILL SOLVE MANY OTHERS PROBLEMS TOO, BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE ANYONE EVER ADDRESSED THE QUESTION AS WELL AS THEY NEEDED TO.

I'm trying to use a free IM program (preferably AIM) on my new 8820 using WIFI only (WIFI, NOT network/AT&T paid Internet service). I purchased the phone because it had WIFI and I figured I could use AIM to contact both AIM members, and send/receive text messages (through AIM also). Essentially, by using WIFI to send/receive AIM messages and AIM text messages, I figured I could avoid data charges all together.

So, without further ado, here are the current settings on my 8820:
BlackBerry 8820
smartphone (EDGE, WiFi)
v4.2.2.169 (Platform 2.4.0.67)
No Data plan
WIFI enabled

First person to give me a working, straight-up, non-complicating answer will be sent $5 through Paypal if they would like. I'm just tired of reading all of these forums with runaround non-working answers.

Sorry, maybe it's me, but what exactly is your question?

JiveTalk is free for the first 30 days and will use wifi only ;)

Some of the other freebies out there, others will have to chime in if they use wifi only.

As for your 5 dollar paypal thing, use it and just buy JT and be done with your search of being cheap

Some words of advice, insulting the forum members by saying they give "run around non-working answers" is not the best way to go about finding help. I don't think your $5 bribe is enough incentive after such an insult. Having said that, a foot long at Subway sounds pretty tasty right about now

Without further adieu, your answer:
BeeJiveIM, as lraed74 stated. It would be your easiest option. No, it isn't free past the trial. However, it is well worth every penny, IMO. So save your $5 and put it towards BeeJiveIM. At the very least, give the 30 day trial a shot, what do you have to lose?

Thanks for your help guys. I take no offense to the comments. In fact, I actually agree...I reread my post and realized that I must have forgotten to actually ask a question. My post was more of a statement. Sorry about that.

One last question...If I send AIM text IM messages through BeejiveIM, using my WIFI as the "preferred network", I SHOULD NOT be charged any data fees, correct?

If properly configured you are correct.
