Default Facebook App Problems

Please Login to Remove!

Been searching all nite, but not finding the exact answer. I just got my 9700(AT&T) on Friday and I cannot get the Facebook app to work. I've downloaded V1.7.0.22 and it loaded fine, but when I attempt to log on it says "cannot connect because a data service is not available, yada yada yada" Now, I do not have Blackberry specific service. What I do have is unlimited messaging and data. When I was at Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones I saw the option to download V1.6 for those that don't have access to the "Browsing Service." But when I click on download(this is all OTA) it says my device is not supported. Now, I upgraded from a Pearl and, with the same exact service plan, I was running a version of a Facebook app just fine, not sure which version. So my question is, why can I not get a Facebook app to run on my shiny new 9700?

I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM...difference is that I recently got a replacement 8330 with updated software.

Facebook worked just fine on my previous 8330 without the software updates.

I have tried resending service books, etc. Nothing is working.

Had the same issue. Removed the app and re-installed it. After a couple of reboots it now works. Facebook and other apps seem to be quircky on OS 5.

There was some kind of connection problem with Facebook yesterday apparently. I have not changed anything on my BlackBerry at all and it started working again today. The Facebook application on my Touch Pro 2 didn't have a connection issue and I could log on properly through the browser (on the phones and computer) without a problem. It appears to have been solely related to the BlackBerry Facebook application.

It is too bad that there are never any notifications or explanations when things like that happens. I use MailStreet for email hosting and they always send advance notifications if anything will be going on that will affect my email delivery (as rare as that is). It would be good for other companies to provide the same for the users of their services.

I didn't/don't have any issues with Facebook running on my Blackberry Bold 9700.

There was apparently a newer version of Facebook for Blackberry available today... at least this is what the indicator on my Blackberry App World showed. I downloaded/upgraded my version of Facebook and it still works for me.

Perhaps this upgrade was meant to fix the problems mentioned in this thread by some users.

I don't have any updates to be made from the BB facebook app itself, says none available.

Nest time I run into that whole, cannot connect to server thing, I'm going to take note exactly what it says.

Its FB.
Theres 2 other threads (at least) on this.
If you notice, your layout on facebook online has changed. They have moved stuff around; including the streams for news.
The FB app doesnt know where to look for these streams, and so itsn't finding anything.
FB will ahve to update the app.

Is the FB app a FB or RIM app? I see it under Research In Motion, which makes me think RIM should be changing/updating the app?

I'm not sure what version was originally installed before I updated it but my Facebook application is currently at 1.7.0.22

I believe that it is a RIM application... which goes to show that even if RIM makes an application for a product that they sell (i.e. Blackberries), that application doesn't always work well or better than 3rd party applications.
