anyone able to make this piece of garbage work?

* "Location On" is configured in my GPS settings

* geotagging is enabled in the camera settings (although the little satellite icon on the camera screen ALWAYS has a red X, even when all other GPS apps work fine... bug maybe?)

* all GPS apps work fine... VZNavigator, maps, google maps

* FLICK bb upload application is installed and does work, but before i upload a picture if i try to change location to "Where I am" it immediately says "could not find current location"

so where exactly is the problem? is the message saying that location information couldnt be extracted from the picture? or is the flick app itself trying to get location info from GPS? i want to assume that all the flick app does it to read GPS info that has been embedded IN the picture. and if thats the case, and its failing because there IS no location info in the picture, well then the problem is with the geotagging in the camera application. (maybe the red X on the satellite ISNT a bug?)... but why would the camera app not be able to get GPS info when all other apps can?

can someone else play with this and tell me what they find?

the FLICK app can be installed OTA here:

I believe it is because you don't have BBMaps loaded on the device.

Default bb maps... WHAT would cause this?!?

os 4.5

bb maps worked ONCE when i clicked "start gps navigation". that was days ago. now, regardless of where i am and how open the sky above me is, it just says "searching for satellites"... and itll sit like that forever.

ps... vz navigation and google maps work fine. i just need to know whats wrong bc the camera also wont find satellites for geotagging pictures.

Have you tried a battery pull with the device powered on to reset it and see if the application starts to work right?

Soft-reset usually does the trick (alt-shift-del)

yes... nothing. "searching for satellites" for ever, with an image of the map that downloaded the one time it did actually work showing my location. so whats next? if this was a computer id have logs, files, etc... what do you do when something simply doesnt work that used to work?

that option doesnt even exist. not sure if its a device-specific capability and the 8830 doesnt have it, or if os 4.5 doesnt have it. either way, i dont have it... so.... what else?

If I remember correctly, Verizon disables GPS on their BBs.

You have Verizon, which does not allow the built-in GPS on their device to operate without purchasing VZNavigator.

jjd228, I've combine three of your threads which were all on the subject. Please don't create a new thread for the same issues... it really does make it difficult to follow and to help you.
Thanks.

Similar question here.

I've enabled geotagging in the camera, and I have the "view on map" location when I view the image in Media Player. However, when I get the photo off of the phone and open it on the computer, there is no GPS info in the file. I've tried viewing the properties in Windows, OSX, and in iPhoto. In particular, in iPhoto, the fields for Latitude and Longitude are black.

Does the native geotagging only work on the blackberry itself in conjunction with BBMaps, i.e. the "View on Map" function?
