Default Problem with trackball not "selecting" or "entering"

Please Login to Remove!

My trackball works horizontally and vertically perfectly. I have two trackballs as a matter of fact, and both have completely quit functioning as the enter key. It is getting pretty nerve racking. Any suggestions???? Thanks ahead of time.....

And both trackballs that I have are clean....

I would suggest taking the trackball assembly out and (with the battery out) using a touch of rubbing alcohol on the contat point underneath the trackball.

Even with the trackball out so to speak, shouldn't I be able to reach in there and push it manually and it work? I can touch it with the trackball out, and you can hear it click, but it doesn't work. My phone has always done odd things, it randomly shuts down and reboots, freezes, and sometimes when texting, multiple letters will come up with no reason. Normally a reboot clears these issues, but this trackball issue was sudden, and nothing yet has fixed it.

Have you ever gotten it wet, even just a few drops of liquid? This sounds like moisture damage. How old is the device, you may want to consider a warranty replacement if <1yr old.

Same problem on my unlocked AT&T 8300. Though when I push hard enough, it also stores up a bunch of latent clicks and then eventually clicks repeatedly about 20 times (often composing and sending empty messages or placing multiple phone calls).

I chalked it up to moisture damage from carrying in my pocket without a case or sleeve. I'd love to hear about any fixes that anyone figures out considering I obviously don't qualify for a warranty replacement.

Can either of you CAREFULLY check under the contact and see if there is corrosion underneath? My guess green/black in color?

Yeah that is what happened to my other blackberry- it all of a sudden stopped functioning as the enter key. Thank god there is the arrow enter key on the side, but it definitely was still annoying! But anyways, mine stopped working because there was dust underneath (plus the fact that I often used my blackberry after I had a ton of moisturizer on my hands), so I would suggest trying to take it out carefully and clean it.

And the thing about the green//black in color, if the ball is green or black does that mean it stopped working? Because I just noticed that with my old blackberry...

If you have pushed the trackball too firmly at some point I think it can keep it from operating as an "enter" button.
If BOTH the trackball and the enter key dont work you must have gotten some moisture in underneath the board somehow. Thats what happened to me and even after DAYS it never did work and I had to send off for a new one thru the insurance I had on it.
Goood luck.

We have about 200 AT&T BB's with a mixture of 8300/8310/8800/8100's. We've had most for about 8-9 months and lately have had a run of the exact same issue. AT&T replaces no questions asked within a day. It's a hardware failure. If you can still scroll, you can use the Enter key to select, it's a pain, but will work until you get it replaced.
