I even more amazed you found that almost nine month old post! Keep searching and you can find just as many to support the fact that gmail does reconcil read and deletes.

Keep clicking through that thread and you'll find posts from, say, June 2008 saying that it still doesn't work. Is that recent enough for you?

And out of curiousity, how would you know either way, since you're using a BES setup anyway?

No, I don't have BES. I don't know which thread you found that in.

So whatever. It doesn't work for you, it does for others.

I am not sure of the point of this thread, since you obviously already know we have a "current" one (you linked) on the issue.

I think people need to be more specific when they say "my Gmail syncs just fine." Syncs what just fine?

I'm exactly on Knocks's side. All normal BIS Gmail POP does is get email to my device instantly and syncs deletes. That's it. Fed up with having to reopen emails on my PC, I switched to Gmail's IMAP and now I get email with a delay, but deletes AND read/unread statuses are instantly synced. Awesome but not so awesome at the same time, you see? BIS Yahoo does all of this, including instant receiving of mail. Knocks and I both want Gmail to work this way and can't understand why we don't already have it.

With all do respect, JSanders, Gmail with BIS simply does NOT work the way we want, nor is it working for "everyone else". I've read countless threads that all lead up to the same conclusion, and that is to pick ONE of the following:
1) POP with instant email delivery compromised by lack of read/unread sync
2) IMAP with instant read/unread sync compromised by "the 15 minute IMAP delay" of email delivery.

Yahoo gets both (instant email delivery and instant read/unread sync)! Not fair.

If, in fact, Knocks and I are both doing the same thing wrong, could you please tell us how to get it working like you, and everyone else, did?

Mine has never updated emails marked as read in my gmail inbox, but I don't really care because I don't use the desktop gmail anyway. I don't see the big deal if you read all your emails on the BB to mark them as all read on the desktop, unless you only read a few and save the others to read later on the desktop maybe. Then I could see it being something of a big deal.

I personally think it has nothing to do with android, but typical of how Google handles their beta projects. I'm sure they'll get right on it just like they do all their other beta's they work on where every once in a blue moon someone will work on something and then they'll drop working on it to do something else just as quickly as they added something. The company comes up with some good ideas, but isn't the best at following up on some of their stuff IMO.

What is your delay, approx what length?

I don't I ever stated or inferred "everyone else" had it working correctly.

I just find his rant interesting to note. This is a Google Issue, and while it is certainly welcome here to be discussed, it is worthless if not discussed in a Google forums. The solution is going to come from the Google, not RIM. BlackBerry has already solved the issue with BES.

With alll due respect, likewise.

To put in my 2 cents, from What I understand the Yahoo thing, from What I understand Yahoo has an aggreement with Rim, that's why it works the way it does.

Anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes, just as everyone who's tried Gmail IMAP has reported. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm with the OP and tbhuang2 on this one. I am pretty annoyed at this point with the read/unread not syncing. Last time I tried IMAP was when GMail first supported it, but I chose not to keep it due to the unpredictable delays. Yahoo has always worked better, and was the first to support push as I remember, but...well...they're no Google.

Awesome.

Knocks, I too feel your pain and I find it quite ridiculous. I think I should have done more research before getting my BB.
Yes, that is how they sell BES. Its a big money maker. However, if RIM wants to court more consumers, then they need to treat BIS customers with a little more respect. Outside of the big business, many BB users do not BES.
