google maps works very well if you have a GPS enabled, or external BT GPS, device -or subscribe to VZ navigator -for Verizon customers. I have noticed -my experiences, that GMM freezes the device if you are trying to use it on a verizon 8330, it tries to active the disabled GPS -here's the need to subscribe to VZ Navigator. If you use it on a non GPS devcice you get a location -close to your actual location, it uses cell tower triangulation.
Bottom line is yes it is good -with the above mentioned stipulations to consider.

Does anyone have problems getting the new google maps installed with OS 4.5?

I uninstalled the old version on my 8320 and went to Google thinking that I could do an OTA download and it doesn't give me the option.

I was able to install the new version OTA on my 7130e by going to the Google site.

I installed v2.3.1 prior to upgrading to v4.5.0.81 using v4.5.0.52 and it worked fine and still works fine with the upgrade...if you continue to have problems doing an OTA, try a desktop install...and next time, it will usually ask you to update if it requires an update (which is a lot easier) so you don't have to waste time or energy fussing over an uninstall and such...

The new version allows you to find directios and searches much easier, doesn't take up much memory or slow down the phone, has a NEW street view option (awesome), walking and transit directions, as well as a carry over GPS option.

And to my knowledge it does not work with wifi...although I could be wrong...

Only problem encountered so far is the "My Location" feature sometimes tells me I'm in Ireland...when I'm really in southern california...

If you don't have a GPS device you can just type in both your start and end locations. Not as quick, but it works.

What exactly happens? It's possible that you have your browser emulation set incorrectly (should be set to BB).

I am having the same issue. I get to the page that is titled Google Maps and has a link for Visit Now. The Visit Now just takes me to a Google Search page.

It probably is the browser emulation setting then.

Go to Browser->Options->Browser Configuration. Make sure that the browser you're using is selected at the top. Set Emulation Mode to Blackberry.
