why does it bite for you? You dont even have verizon! So it shouldnt matter one way or another.

That didn't work for me, but I wish it would.

Crippled = Works but with proprietary application such as VZnavigator.
Disabled = Not present or does not work at all.

Now let see how the Verizon fan boys (dawg) responds to common sense.

Has nothing to do with common sense. Its not crippled if you can still use the GPS
If you dont like the service go else where its a free country how about that for fanboy.

If you wanna call me a fanboy thats fine. I will always praise a product that works perfectly for me. Just like all the apple fanboys praising the stupid iphone that cant copy and paste or run simultanious apps.

I do not agree with this statement, or the terminology at least. Say you have an 8300 that has an IT policy where the camera is "disabled." The device has a camera built in but you are unable to use it, so is it "disabled" or "crippled"?

I am in no way a fanboy of Verizon or any carrier for that matter. They all have their pros and cons. For example, sprint and MMS or poor customer service, Tmo seems to have issues with coverage.

She has been waiting for the 8200 to come out. Then, today, I told her about the 9500. Showed her some pictures. She likes this phone also.

My question is: Does Verizon cripple thier BB's in any manner? I have heard the Verizon Curves GPS is fixd so you can't use Blackberry or Google Maps and have to pay for their similar service. Is this accurate? And is there any hope of them not doing this on the 9500?
i would avoid tmobile if i was getting a blackberry...personal bias, stick to att or vzw, both have the best 3g data networks.

Any reason why? Their plans are less expensive and they have UMA. If coverage is the issue, it may not be great for you, but for others it is.

Also, their customer support is better than some of the other carriers out there as well.

i mentioned personal bias in my post, but if you want me to mention some reasons; vzw did come first or second in customer service based on jd power reviews, more 3g coverage with vzw and att then tmobile which has been slow to roll things out, many complaints from friends in area about bad tmobile call quality.

i just see tmobile as a nice cell phone company to start out with if your in college or hs and you need a cell phone. they give you great deals on minutes and data, because they know they're lagging in tech rollouts, and their call quality isn't the best so they have to compensate somehow. if your a business customer or someone with a decent job that a cell phone doesn't break your wallet, then i would go with att or vzw.

As I mentioned before, every carrier has their pros and cons. 3G is a con for tmobile. However, your experiences with Tmobile my be completely different than the OP.

To get back on topic, the OP seems to want to get away from VZW due to "crippling" their devices. I don't think he is unhappy with Tmobile.

Verizon disables the entire API for the GPS so only their application, which you have to pay for, can be used.
Fun huh?

I don't get it. So just how much does Verizon pay you. I mean really the only way I would defend Verizon's crippling techniques like you do is if they paid me.

The camera has been crippled by the IT policy.
Crippled = Another form of crippling. Device or functionality exists, however it has been disabled or modified for other intended purposes.

I would hate to ask what you would call a working "FULLY" functional feature as intended by the manufacture and not the reseller or service provider.

Anyone think this topic has been aired long enough, both sides are clear of the facts?

Interesting how you use the term "disabled" in your definition of crippled.

As Dawg always states, this is REALLY beating a dead horse. Verizon stated they did not see the GPS apps fit for them, therefore they created one themselves. They sell it as a service. There is really nothing more to be said.

Yes, I believe it has been aired long enough. I see his point. We will have to agree to disagree.

I generally stay away from these topics since I have a biased opinion on the subject, but I do think this is headed downhill quickly.

Yes you are right.

I should have left out "disabled" in my response. But the issue still stands.

Also Dawg is right. This issue has been beaten to death. So he must agree that Verizon is known for crippling devices so why talk about it.
