Default Rogers launch date confusion, and stock availability in Ontario

Please Login to Remove!

So after speaking with several (dozens) of Rogers locations some think the launch was today, others have devices and are holding them for a launch tomorrow (aug 10).

And then there are several others that have devices on hand, but don't have promo codes so are only selling the devices outright.

I have one on hold in a Guelph location for tomorrow (if someone wants this device, let me know).. And I am enroute to another location to pick one up outright.

You would need to unlock the phone. All phones are 'locked' to the specific carrier.

You can buy unlock codes online, I know people here can probably let you know who is worth going to.

Back in the day, I won a brand spankin' new Bold 9000 in a contest on this very forum. It was an unlocked Rogers unit and worked perfectly on AT&T. I had it for years before passing it on to a somebody in need. Horizon Wireless did the unlocking and co-sponsored the contest along with Tom. To this day I'm still shocked that I won!

just called a couple of rogers stores in downtown Toronto. Found one that had some still in stock. My hardware upgrade cost is going to be $250.
Also called BestBuy (where I got my Bold 9000 when first released...nowhere else had stock) they have lots of stock, but according to sales rep can't sell them till Fri as their system has a lock out date till then. Apperently yesterdays release date was earlier than expected and BestBuy is sticking to the Friday release date.

Yeah. I think that is for a multi-year activation, not an 'rogers upgrade' lmao...

but what is the minimum monthly data/voice plan to get that price?

I pay less than $35/month for my voice & data (large corp discount)... I could have paid less for the phone, but then I would have to get a voice/data plan that was more than $55/month over a 3 year period. No way that made any sense to me.

It was a re-signing a 3 year contract.

on Bell, you can get out of any contract now at no charge, except for hardware cost subsidy.

How much would it cost to get one Factory unlocked 9900 in the US / Canada. The bold 9900 has been released today in India at a cost of Rs.32,490/- ( approx. US $722 at today's exchange rate) . Would be helpful if members in US/Canada could clarify the cost of the same if one need to get a phone without contract. Thinking of getting one through my Brother in NC or Cousin in Ontario depending on the price.
Thanks in advance ... Dan

Except as an added twist, both Rogers and Bell are selling the handsets locked to their respective networks. You may need to get it unlocked as well. (Canada)

With just an approx $120 difference , I might as well save myself the wait and get a contract free 9900 from India itself
@stevew & @ZombieBerry...Thanks for the replies.
