Overhauled BB Browser

Anyone got any news on when RIM and Torch Mobile intend to have this new super browser out by?
It's either waiting for this or whenever Skyfire is gonna finalize itself for RIM devices

I thought it was due to come out with OS 5.
If thats the case, then whenever OS 5 is released.

O/S 5 is already out on the new Storm2 and it has the same old browser. I read they expect it out in mid 2010; after all you have two companies merging and then to get them up to speed on building RIM's browser... I HOPE it is out by mid 2010!

Mid 2010 is very optimistic. At the snails pace RIM moves at, 2011 would probably be more realistic.

I hear ya! I think Rim really is making this a high priority with the iPhone and Droids coming out. Their's really looks antique beside the newest browsers.

Let's this hope this is right. I'd love to get my hands on a new browser for my phone. It's the only thing with major lag on my phone.

So my question is...
Will the new browser be able to loaded on any Blackberry?

Probably not. The old Curves 8300s and Pearls 8100s probably won't make the cut. Anything newer shouldn't be a problem I would imagine.

I was going to take a guess with anything that meets the requirements for the 5.0 Os should be able to use the new browser.

Any bets on this browser being released after OS 6.0 comes out?
I have a sneaking suspicion that when it does get released it'll all be that too little, too late in terms of the competition

i read somewhere it'll be in may, but it's all internet speculation.
am i wrong for actually liking the bb browser? apart from it's slowness (loading page / scripts / images in linear) & occasional difficuties fetching pages, i quite like it compared to other phones standard browsers. i prefer this to nokia 5800 (s60 v5). obviously flash & youtube embedding would be nice, but for general browsing it's ok?
i tried opera mini beta 5 but i still think it's a tie between bb browser & bolt. bolt does more but i think bb browser has a cleaner appearance. can't wait to see the new version

I do use bolt too and it is quite good for geneeral browsing, but I'd had to agree that the normal browser simply lags behind the competition...Android and Apple's browsers are a lot faster, leaving aside the target market this is, RIM is lagging in this area.
OS 6.0 looks more consumer oriented if you ask me...but I do hope the major update is not a cosmetic one only with minor tweaks that were needed (a la Windows Vista to Windows 7 lol)

That is interesting because on my bold 9000, the browser in 5.0 vs 4.6 is drastically different. In 4.6 the browser was so slow with javascript on that is was completely unusable. When I upgraded to 5.0, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the browser was.
The 5.0 browser is faster than any of the alternative browsers I had previously installed like bolt and opera. In fact, I have removed all of the third party browsers because of how well the new browser works.

I agree. I downloaded 5.0 for my curve and the browser seems much better, not only the way it looks, but the speed. I too deleted Bolt as I don't need it any longer.
