Default GPS and the 8100?

Please Login to Remove!

How is this going to function? Will something similar to Navigation be available? I ride a motorcycle and can see the benefit of having handheld navigation.

My understanding is that there is a GPS "disk" that mounts on the dashboard of your car that makes this functionality work-it needs to be purchased seperately, it doesn't come with the handset.

Maybe a partnership with TomTom? It's a "killer app" on the Treo line. Building support into the new BB is smart. Gives you the easy "plug-and-play" thing, and with a consumer-oriented device that seems to be a major selling point.

the software is already on the phone. all you need is the bluetooth GPS hardware and you are up and running.

from the copper docking prongs on the rear of the device i think Ndub33 maybe correct on his statement

You need a BlueTooth GPS unit.

I just ordered the new super-tiny Holux GPSlim 240 (I can't post URLs yet, but do a search, and you should find some reviews - it's tiny 64 x 22 x 15 mm and <35g). Here's hoping it plays nice with the the 8100.

(Does anyone know if Blackberry supports JSR179 and JSR82 for writing J2ME apps to talk to the GPS?)

Does anyone have any additional info on the GPS capabilities yet? From the comments above I am a little unsure if it is a dock type setup I would need to purchase or just a generic bluetooth gps unit.

Could anyone expand on this?

TIA,

what about the nokia gps puck? hopefully this will work. I can put this in my bag and carry it around while walking instead of having something bulky attached in my car. and i live in chicago so i walk more than drive

i've been a member of this site for a while i don't really say anything i just mostly read the posts and they pretty much answer all my questions. so since i don't have over 10 posts i can't post links (which is stupid) for the nokia gps receiver, so i have the last part after the "nokiausa dot com" "slash...." and here is the rest
