Have you tried switching USB cables, it could be bad. I also only use the usb ports in back of the machine not in the front noe hubs. I too have had an upgrade go belly up and had the red blinking light and I have had the dreaded 507 error but have always been able to recover. This is grasping at straws here but have you unistalled the Handheld manager software and rebooted prior to reinstalling it. I would also on the off chance of a bad download, would start by using what came in your cd to at the very least get it to factory settings before any more attempts at upgrading, as strange as it may sound your download could have become corrupted, firewalls (AOL, Windows, Router, any of these).
Short of this I would call your provider but do not tell them you were trying to upgrade because they frown on this, just tell them it stopped working and hope for an exchange.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Nothing personal about your suggestion that the unit be returned under bogus reasons but..... That's why my next BB will cost more! RIM is here to make money, if everyone cheats them they go belly up and we loose our new cool toys every year.

I appreciate your statement and though it sounds like I am trying to circumvent things, He has a new unit 8700 that is still under warranty, he has not broken it all he tried to do was upgrade his software, for that matter it could have happened trying to reload his own software. So it is not like he is telling them that he dropped it on the carpet and in reality it was dropped from the roof while you were fixing your dish.

Regardless, I was not trying to imply for him to lie , his unit stopped working as a result of normal usage within the warranty period. But if my statement implied otherwise I do want it to be clear that I am not endorsing deceit. It did stop working while it was connected to the pc.

Ignoring everything blackberry and RIM, the FIRST and foremost thing that has to happen is windows has to recognize that somethign was connected to the USB port, even if there is no blackberry specific software installed. If your computer does not say (or make a sound) that something was connected to the USB port when you plug in your BB, try another computer, if the other one reacts similarly, there is absolutely nothign you can do, but send it back. If the hardware cannot communicate, no software trick with the Desktop Manager is going to do a thing. Sorry.

I've seen many a Treo get fried during bad ROM flashes. Never seen it happen to a BB though.

Yeah it sounds like the computer could be jammed up. I have a printer that works on three other computers in my house but when I connect it to the desktop in the office, the computer doesn't even know anything's plugged into the USB port.

Why were you installing a Telstra branded OS on a BB on the Cingular network anyway? My boss had a similar problem after updating the OS on his however after some fiddling with cables and software the PC detected it but we couldn't do anything with reloading the OS. He left it on over night and it came right on its own.

You need to request the service books from rogers

Options --> Advanced Options --> Host Routing Table

Click wheel, and select register now.

Give it 2 minutes and the icons should appear.
