Default how to get email on my Storm?

Please Login to Remove!

hi all, first post.

I've just unlocked my new Storm, I'm using an orange pay-as-u-go sim.
How can I get email working on this?

I've installed device manager, registered my phone number with orange.

I've tried entering my PIN & EMEI on Blackberry site but it says "my phone is not registered with my wireless provider. To do this I should, under host routing table" "register now" i did this, says it sent, but nothing else happens.

secondly, when I go to email setup the only option I have available is the "blackberry enterprise" setup..

Please help, losing patience quickly....

You don't.
You need a BlackBerry Data Plan for email... and you don't get that with a PAYG SIM.

Because you don't have a BlackBerry Data Plan.

Nothing will happen... because you don't have a BlackBerry Data Plan.

Seriously?

I think he explained it pretty thoroughly.

christ, have I offended somebody already! it usually takes me a few days to do that.

OK, I can now surf the net using Opera Mini, which is great.

The main problem I'm having is of cause email access via POP. In email setup the only option I have is for Enterprise...when I originally turned on the phone only yesterday there were 2 options.

any ideas?

I don't believe anyone is offended.

As Penguin stated, you will need a BlackBerry data plan to get email to your device.

thanks for the link.

Quote from it:
" * Do I need a data plan to access the internet?

Yes you will need a data plan to access the internet
With NO data plan you may:

* make phone calls
* send/receive text SMS messages
* NOT use any instant messenger program that anyone has found so far
* use the device as a standalone PIM
* NOT send or receive any information over the internet, in any way shape or form, despite what you heard about it being possible"

is this information out-of-date?
Opera allows me internet access, and it was very easy to setup. So I'm thinking perhaps email access is now also possible without a plan.

does anyone here know how this is done?

Without a data plan you will not be able to surf the net, and if you do you will be charged quite significantly. You're on PAYG, so it may be different for you.

This link is probably more suited for you:

I can surf using opera mini. email from my yahoo and gmail account are through orange wap service (APN setup) Orange had to send down some settings and charge, I think £5 a month, but this particular phone is on a 6 month trial so it's free for now. 3 new icons have appeared, what looks to be a standard browser, gmail, and yahoo icon....I'm still not convinced the email is working properly yet as its a bit 'quiet' but I have received some mails via gmail for sure.

What I dont understand yet is when my outlook sync's with my web mail accounts, I have it so the original mail is deleted from the web server...so how does my phone deal with this? first to sync gets it? or 2 copies sent - 1 to outlook, 1 to phone??

any ideas?

I don't understand what plan or how your phone is working on email? But if you do have email go into your email-than hit the blackberry button-find Options-than Email Reconciliation here you can have it set to delete from your phone or server. Again I don't know if this will work because of the strange setup you have?

Email does not sync. If email is deleted from the server after download to Outlook, then it can't be sent to the BB. Email flows from the host server to the BB, not from Outlook on your PC.

I've tested this and it simply is a case of first to sync gets the email if your web mail is setup to delete the original. Not really a problem when you consider what the Blackberry is for in this respect.

Got the email working again. My provider had suspended the account for no apparent reason. 6 month free, then £5 a month. Although I expect to tackle this issue when it comes around
