Default How to activate bis on used activated bb

Please Login to Remove!

hi all, i'm planning on buying used bb, how would i know whether the bb has been activated or not on any
carriers? then if it was activated, can i activate it on my carrier without previous user releasing it?
in fact, who does have the authority to release the activation: rim, previous carrier or my carrier?
thanks for your help

If an account exists the previous user will need to contact their previous provider to have their account disassociated from the handheld if a previous account exists. If no account exists you should be golden as long as you have the correct services.

Thanks for your answer phil. But if I don't know the previous user (because I bought it from a store, not from the previuos user) what can I do to release the association?

If it's a refurbished device there shouldn't be any accounts associated with it. If you're having problems call your wireless provider.

It's not refurbished but used blackberry. It seems the previous user has not release the blackberry so that I can't register it on my carrier with its pin and imei. Any suggestions? Thanks

Used BB from your wireless provider? If so they should be able to release the handheld from the existing account. If they can't they'll probably contact RIM to take care of it.

Thanks phil, it's a used bb from singapore with singtel carrier. Meanwhile i'm in indonesia with indosat carrier. In this case who has the priviledge to release the previous activation, singtel or rim? Can I ask rim to release it, since i'm not singtel's customer. Thanks

Should be singtel. rim will not typically release an account unless there is a really good reason for it. I think the account technically belongs to Singtel.

Default Similar problem: switching carriers

I have purchased a brand new unlocked 8100 unit from Vodaphone in Hong Kong without a service plan and was told it could be activated with any carrier, anywhere. As you all know this is simply not true, I was mislead. Now I live in Brazil and want to activate a service plan here. How can I release the PIN from Vodaphone if I was never a customer? I have called them in Hong Kong and England, they don't seem to know. How does one get a hold of BB tech support?
