I gave.

With proper vetting... I will give again.

I refuse to let this situation affect my future donation decisions. When I donated it made me feel good knowing that I was trying to do what I could to help someone who was in need.
I bear no malice to anyone... I will just do my homework next time.

...and I believe in karma.

Wirelessly posted (off to see the wizard)

I absolutely believe in karma or what goes around comes around. He will get what's coming to him sooner or later

I am not and will never claim to be a saint. Also pretty tight with my money. However, when I do donate, it's without expectation of return. Based on what I haved learned from this community, and life in general, I feel pretty certain this is true with most of you as well. The act of helping or giving is basic to human nature. At least for the majority of us it is. Sure, I was a little excited about winning a prize or drawing, but just not expected.

So, what I'm trying to say is:

Jsanders and TroyDBrown, please remove my name from the drawing. It would not make me feel very good to accept a prize if my contribution didn't even make it to the needed parties.

If there is still a financial need, can we take up another collection?

That's the good thing about this world there are still good people out there. Unfortunately or how ever you want to take it I was unable to donate on this last one, but I have in the past and most certainly will in the future. I myself won't let one misfortune change the way I look at life. Any time I can help out I will.

I help without the technology as a medium, it kinda always scared me (too easy to scam). But for all those who did donate, you got an eternal reward /karma /whatever, just because it didn't help the right person doesn't mean you didn't give charity.

Yeah, I was 'fortunate' enough to get in on the first round of donations, but I'd much rather be me than Nick. I'll be sleeping easy tonight.

Wow.....

So I've been playing the role of lead inquisitor in this thread ever since the proclaimed donation deadline went whooshing by. While I am happy that we finally have some answers, I can't say they were the kind I was hoping for.

I don't think I need to repeat the many inspiring words already spoken about good-will among members of BBF. As mentioned, fundraisers have been successful in the past, and must continue as such.

Keeping sight of this being a family forum, I will keep the venting to myself, and take pleasure in knowing that karma is catching up with NickTheDegenerate as I speak.

Many thanks to the mods for taking this into their own hands, and to HorizonWireless for his generosity.

My appologies to the member who really lost out on this (we tried).

On a final note, I would like to throw a suggestion out there. While the majority of us do have good intentions, there are indeed bad apples hiding among us... Let's establish some safe guards (regarding verifying credentials, etc.) to prevent this from happening again.

The problem is, there were some safeguards in place. Nick was well known around here by many people. I remember reading something in another forum where some senior BBF members stuck up for him when members of that other forum cried foul at the beginning of the collection period. You can't get any safer than people like EZ or JSanders or Juwaaack or Horizon Wireless vouching for you.

Yes we did, Unfortunately hindsight is 20/20.

Without a doubt I think future endevours will have some safety protocols installed to prevent such a thing from happening.

The events that have unfolded are indeed unfortunate. but it shall not sway my desire to help others hopefully it does not sway anyone else from helping when a need arises again

Wow...I was really hoping that this wasn't the case. I thought this thread was closed, I just did a search to see if anything new had been started. That is too bad what happened...granted I gave because I wanted the laptop (my father in law needed a new laptop and the giveaway was ending just before his bday...) but the helping hand we were giving was the main reason to give. As David.Burke mentioned...is there another collection being started to still help the RIGHT individual???

Why not give us some of Nick's personal information, I hope you have an address or something, and let's see what it takes to file a complaint with the police. It may even be a federal crime as he solicited funds across state lines.
My guess is it would have to be one of the mods that helped him more than one of us that donated to file a complaint.

During the course of Nick soliciting for funds, I do believe there were some objections but Nick stayed the course acting as a do-gooder... It would soothe some hurt feelings if we can get some closure on this situation...

This guy used the internet to commit fraud. I'd guess there have to be some federal laws that have been broken. As individuals, those that donated would probably would need to seek relief getting very little satisfaction filing a complaint for $5-$100, whatever the donation range. We don't even have contact information for this guy, and, I would think whatever registration information or checking out prior to letting this guy post is not something you want to publish here.

I think the owner of the board, or the mods that have been duped as well, would be able to do more than those who donated. Maybe get in touch with the mods of other boards and see about filing a complaint jointly.

It is being worked on.

I don't feel publishing the skank's address, email and personal information here for a public lynching would be wise at this point.

It is not over and not a closed matter, by any means.

You'd probably wind up with more grief publishing it anyway. Glad to hear you're pursuing it.

Just out of curiosity, has any justice been served in this case?
