+1. I don't normally make impulse purchases, but when I'm moody I have been known to go buy something I know will cheer me up... and who doesn't feel moody during PMS???

I think that's probably the bigger story: people who self-medicate by spending money whenever they feel bad.

I think this is the real issue, but unfortunately many women will now use this study as a cover to justify impulse spending.

I'm not a woman, so obviously I don't have that time of the month, but if life just isn't going right, I've been known to do some serious shopping. Buying mobile phones, clothes or shoes usually makes me feel better, but sometimes it gets worse than that.

How about when they're really angry at someone? my mom was so angry at my dad once, she went and bought LV luggage. Talk about big expenses?

Wow!! That is a big expense.

I do tend to buy stuff when I'm angry (or depressed).

I don't think impulse buying has a gender component. I'm definitely more guilty of that than my wife. We had zero flat panels in our house in 08. Now we have three. It was my trips to Best Buy, not hers.

Wirelessly posted (It's all about Fuschia!)

*giggle* I know men who are bigger shopaholics than women. One of my friends went into Gucci and ended up with 4 pairs of shoes. I came out with sunglasses. He was angry with his girlfriend so the impulse buy. I kid you not.

I'm guilty of that... My ex and I went into Coach, and I spent more on myself than her... LOL

There's something therapeutic about doing some gorilla shopping. If something comes to mind that I want, I don't give up until I have it. Drives my wife crazy. And to to go a store with a single item in mind, I rarely leave empty handed.

My next impulse buy will be a new camcorder. I think I'll start doing some research now.
