Smile How can my phone get emails without all the details?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all

I have set up emails on my 8320 and i get them no problem. thing is how is this possible?

I have not told the phone what type of email account i have, if i use pop3 or smtp and i have not given the phone my username for my email account? All i gave it was my email address and password. No server details at all!

I do get emails and i can send them no problem...

Im not complaining im just not getting how it works?

I am a website designer from Scotland and I have my own private server hosting hundreds of websites all over the UK and whenever i setup a new email account for a client, i obviously have to give them details to put into outlook or whatever app they use and this is obviously how they get their mail?

BUT I didnt have to put these details into my phone?

Any help (well not help as i dont have a problem) would be good

There are some assumptions and tests that can be run behind the scenes.

In some cases there are issues with setting up email and BIS will ask you for more information to help set up the account.

RIM has developed it's scripts to work will all of the major email systems, their typical installations and knows the settings for all free email services like yahoo, gmail, etc. Based upon your domain the scripts will know the server settings. Pretty amazing technology!
