Trackball Issues
Please Login to Remove!
So, I have a Rogers bold, got it August 23, and it's been fine for me, up until monday. I put it in my pocket, and had it in there for a while, but, now whenever I push the trackball to the left, there is a bit of resistance on it. I tried the wet finger trick (wetting finger and rolling it on track ball) to no avail... any other suggestions? or am I gonna have to take it to Rogers to get repaired? (I'd love to do it myself, but, I don't want to void my warranty)
Thoughts? Thanks!

Push the trackball in, and roll the ball at the same time.
Sometimes this dislodges any dirt/lint/dust that may be obstructing the movement.

I have just run across two Rogers Bolds that would stick when rolling up. I cleaned the trackballs really well with a baby wipe then dried them with a paper towel. One of them seems fine now, the other one seems to only work properly when there is enough force applied.
I have not taken apart the trackball assembly to give it a good cleaning yet.

I hate how you cannot remove the track ball without taking the bold apart.

i've had really good luck cleaning the sticky ones with a q-tip and some isopropanol. Iso dissipates quickly and doesn't leave a residue.

I also hate how you can't remove the trackball without taking the whole phone apart. I tried pressing, rolling and cleaning at the same time. Might try to pick up some isopropanol... I dunno... I don't want to have to take it in to get fixed and downgrade to my 8100

i keep a box of first aid alcohol cleaning wipes (the kind nurses use when administering a shot), and a can of air to clean trackballs. if there is no defect in the trackball hardware, this will almost always fix the problem.
if that still doesn't work (i've only come across 2 bolds so far and haven't worked with them much) since it is brand new, i would just return it and get a new one immediately.

I would be careful with the "wet" application you tried. Moisture does not do well once introduced into the device. Alcohol is a better bet and I would still allow time to dry before turning the device back on.

Yes, the alcohol is the way to go. If you look at the 'mighty mouse' trackball you can find the same issues and all were solved with the alcohol wipes.
good luck

Trackball Issues
Ya. Mine stopped going in the down direction. I bought in late August. The good news is the replacement arrived in 2 days since calling in the problem to Rogers. The only problem is that the PIN is now different which can create licensing issues. I had to e-mail a vendor to get a new registration number for the new PIN. It is a good thing I did not purchase the Garmin Nav. software or I would be out of luck.

If changing the trackball voids the Warranty then rogers will be sending me a new phone every 2 months. We shouldn't have to live with a dirty trackball.
Curve and pearl I had bought 40 trackballs for i think 3-4$ each, Anytime it would get dirty i would just change it. Still have lots left and since its the same trackball the bold uses just adds insult to injury

Don't carry it in your pocket. Saves you grief and time and money. Simple as that.

Anyone else have a "squeek" to their trackball? Doesn't seem as quiet as the curve.
