My children are unable to connect their Blackberrys to the home network with this new router(Thomson Technicolor 582?) . With the previous router (585?) all they had to do was scan for available networks and then when ours appeared they put in the password.

But with this one when you scan and find the network and try to connect you get the message "this wireless router supports wi-fi protected setup. To connect using a PIN (which your Blackberry will generate), click Next". Then when you click Next you get an 8 number code. it doesn't give you the opportunity to put in the network password.

Please tell me how to connect the Blackberrys to our network. thanks

I could be wrong, but this sounds like an issue with your router.

But you don't have to use that option, correct? If you set up WAP or WEP or whatever security on the router, you select on the BlackBerry whatever applies, and not the wifi protected option.

Yeah, just set up WPA.

I still don't understand what's wrong! I typed in the router settings and it already says WPA+WPA2?
When trying to connect the BB also gives you an option to 'push' - what does 'push' mean in terms of connecting? thanks

Use WPA-PSK Encryption

WPA-PSK Version: WPA+WPA2

Set the router for WPA security. Set the BlackBerry wifi to the WPA option. Enter the SSID and network password info on the BlackBerry on the screen(s) that follow, as required. That's all you need to do.
